0:00In the past year, we got our hands on a
0:02bunch of projectors in all different
0:04shapes and sizes. There’s just one key
0:06similarity between all of these
0:08projectors, the price. Most of them are
0:11a bit more on the budget friendly side.
0:13Today though, we’re looking at something
0:14a bit more expensive. The Yabber K2S
0:18smart projector. With a list price of
0:20around 20,000 pesos, the Yabber K2S is
0:22still a bit more affordable than
0:24projectors offered by bigname brands.
0:26However, it is priced a bit higher
0:28compared to the more budget friendly
0:29options we tried this past year. Still,
0:32the important question is this. Is the
0:34Yabber K2S smart projectors something
0:37you should consider for your home
0:38theater setup or even your room? Well,
0:40let’s find out in this review.
0:48First up, let’s check out the build of
0:50the Yabber K2S. It features an all black
0:52body with a bit of bronze accents on the
0:55large Yabber logo at the top and the K2S
0:58badge on the left side. On the right
0:59side, there’s even a fun together enjoy
1:01together lettering on the cloth speaker
1:03cover, which I find really tacky. It
1:05would have looked a lot cleaner without
1:07it. The fan and the exhaust is also
1:09located on the right side, keeping all
1:11of the hot air over there. So, whoever’s
1:13sitting on the right side, well, they’re
1:14going to get hot. Now, while the Yber
1:16K2S does come with a remote, you also
1:18get physical buttons on the top of the
1:20projector. You can do a lot with these
1:22buttons, though, and it’s mainly for
1:23adjusting the volume or choosing whether
1:25to use it as a speaker or to put it to
1:27sleep. At the rear, you’ll find the
1:29intake, which also comes with a filter
1:31for easy cleaning. At the bottom, there
1:33is a provision to mount this from the
1:34ceiling, but you will need four screws
1:36in a base plate. It’s not the large
1:38single thread typically found on other
1:40projectors, so you can’t really set it
1:41up on a tripod. With that said, it’s not
1:44exactly the easiest to set up if you
1:46plan on bringing it around. Then again,
1:47the size doesn’t make it easy to bring
1:49it around either. It’s almost 11.5 in
1:52long and 5 in tall, and it weighs 3.2
1:55kg. Thankfully, there’s a small stand at
1:58the bottom. If you want to adjust the
2:00angle up and down, but that’s about it
2:02for the adjustment of the projector.
2:03Everything else you will have to do
2:05manually. So, if you want to make it
2:07bigger or smaller, you will need to move
2:09the projector forwards or backwards by
2:12yourself. The same goes for adjusting it
2:14left and right just to get the proper
2:16angle. What I did like about the Yabber
2:17K2S is that it does come with an HDMI
2:19cable and an RCA adapter, assuming you
2:22still use RCA. You can just plug these
2:24into the back if you’re going to use
2:26them since you do have a lot of ports
2:28available. Alternatively, though, you
2:30can just easily cast them all on your
2:32phone, whether iOS or Android, but more
2:34on that later on. The auto keystone is a
2:36bit too aggressive for my liking. It
2:37doesn’t get the setup perfect from the
2:39start. The autofocus is slightly better,
2:40though, but you can still improve it by
2:42manually adjusting it in the settings.
2:44Now, given the small stand, it was a bit
2:46hard to get the angle right for our
2:48setup here at the UK HQ. Initially, we
2:51wanted to mount it on a tripod, but
2:53since it doesn’t have the screw, that
2:54was impossible. Instead, we had to stack
2:56a bunch of boxes together just to get it
2:58projecting right on the screen. But once
3:00we did, everything else was a bit
3:02easier. As mentioned earlier, we did
3:04have to adjust the keystone and focus
3:05manually to get the best display
3:08possible. One thing great about the
3:09Yabber K2S is how bright the display is.
3:12Gabber says it is rated for 800 lumens.
3:14And from our experience, you can see
3:16everything on the screen, even with a
3:18bunch of lights turned on. Not to
3:20mention, it even projects at 4K to give
3:22you the best quality possible. So 4K and
3:25a bright projector. That seems like a
3:27great combo, right? But unfortunately,
3:29the shadow quality isn’t the best even
3:31at 4K. Even when you’re watching not so
3:33dark movies like Scott Pilgrim, which
3:34you watch, you can see some artifacting
3:37on the faces of people even when the
3:39shot is well lit. It’s even more evident
3:41when we watch something dark like John
3:43Wick on the projector and you can really
3:45see the artifacting in the shadows and
3:47blacks. We tried adjusting the contrast,
3:49sharpness, and hues in the color mode,
3:50but even then that didn’t really
3:53improve. And even when you used other
3:55color modes, the issue of the shadows
3:56wasn’t exactly addressed. To make things
3:58worse, but then again, this is standard
4:00with all projectors, the quality drops
4:02further when you have a bit of light in
4:04the background. But nonetheless, we were
4:06very impressed by the quality of the
4:08projector when it’s really dark. Even
4:10with two small floor lamps turned on
4:12next to the screen, the difference in
4:14quality compared to the other projectors
4:16we tried is very obvious. But there’s
4:18another problem we encountered with this
4:20specific projector. There’s the issue of
4:22the screen adjusting brightness
4:24randomly. It wasn’t obvious when we were
4:26watching anime, but it was noticeable
4:28when we were watching movies. When the
4:29scene is a bit dark, the brightness also
4:32becomes lower. And when it’s bright, it
4:34becomes brighter. At first, we thought
4:36the change in brightness was part of the
4:38movie we were watching, but even when we
4:39switched to a different movie, it still
4:41happened. It was irritating since it was
4:43very noticeable, especially when you’re
4:45very immersed in the movie you’re
4:46watching. So, we’re not sure if that’s
4:48an issue with this specific unit or with
4:51the entire Yber K2S line. Now, as for
4:54the speakers, this does come with dual
4:56stereo speakers, specifically dual 10
4:58watt speakers tuned by JBL, and they
5:00sound great. They’re loud and they
5:02easily fill up the living room here at
5:04the Yugate HQ. The quality is decent,
5:06too, since the projector supports Dolby
5:08audio. From our experience, there were
5:10no audio distortions even when the
5:12speakers are maxed out, so you do get a
5:15nice surround sound feel. But of course,
5:17if you want a better listening
5:18experience, you can pair your home
5:20speaker system using the 3.5 mm audio
5:23port. If you don’t have those, you can
5:25also pair your soundbar via Bluetooth.
5:27As for the topic of OS, the interface is
5:30rather fast. It’s smooth, too, with
5:32little to no lag when you’re going
5:33through the menu. But perhaps my
5:35favorite part is how easy it is to pair
5:38with Apple devices. You can simply cast
5:41it like Apple TV using your phone, iPad,
5:44or even Mac devices. It’s an identic
5:46experience when it comes to Android. And
5:48even on Samsung, you could use Dex mode
5:50on this. If you’re an Apple user, this
5:53is great because unlike the past
5:54projectors we tried, which does need a
5:57bit of work around to get casting
5:59working on the iPhone, this one just
6:01pairs easily. Now, what I was curious
6:03about was the NFC connection. I thought
6:05it would work out of the box without
6:07needing anything else. But
6:08unfortunately, you’ll need to download
6:10the app first before it will work. If
6:12you just use your phone and scan the
6:13NFC, it’ll just open up the Yber
6:15website. Honestly, it kind of defeats
6:17the purpose of having to use NFC if you
6:19can simply just cast your phone to the
6:21projector itself. I mean, why else would
6:23you use NFC and download an app if you
6:26can just cast it easily, right? But
6:28nonetheless, it’s still a nice feature
6:29to have if you want to impress your
6:31friends by being able to cast your phone
6:33just by NFC. Aside from the Yabber OS
6:36itself, the K2S also comes with Android
6:38TV out of the box. It comes with the
6:40usual Netflix, Disney Plus, Amazon Prime
6:42Video, and YouTube, but you can download
6:44more if you want. What was irritating is
6:46that we had to connect to the Wi-Fi
6:48twice before we could use Android TV.
6:51Once everything was set up though, it
6:52felt like using any Android TV. What was
6:55interesting though was the volume
6:57control, which isn’t exactly intuitive
6:59when you’re using the remote. There’s
7:00the Android volume control, but it’s
7:02different from the built-in volume
7:04controls the Yabber K2S, which is
7:06expected. But when you’re using the
7:07remote, you’re not just adjusting the
7:09master control volume. Instead, you’re
7:11controlling both the Yabber volume and
7:14also the Android TV volume. As a result,
7:16there are times where I end up making
7:18the volume too loud or too soft. Since
7:20it was a bit confusing to use, I
7:22eventually just ended up using the
7:24physical buttons on the projector since
7:25that one controls the master volume of
7:27the projector itself. Instead, I just
7:29kept the Android TV volume on maxed out
7:32and adjusted from there. Overall, we
7:34enjoyed watching our favorite movies and
7:36series using the Yabber K2S here at the
7:39Yugate HQ. As much as I wanted to bring
7:41it around during my trip out of town, it
7:43wasn’t exactly portable. It doesn’t
7:45really fit in a bag and it’s bulky if
7:47you try to do so, even just carrying it
7:49around. Not to mention, it does take a
7:51while to properly set up. And if you
7:53don’t have a flat wall, you will have a
7:54hard time doing so. But when you do get
7:56it set up, works great. A bright 4K
7:58display with decent colors and contrast.
8:01It’s not at the level of cinema
8:03projectors just yet for a proper home
8:05theater setup, especially with the
8:06artifactings you see in the shadows and
8:08blacks, but it’s a decent setup from
8:10budget projectors that you might be more
8:12familiar with on our channel. The thing
8:14is though, you also need to step up your
8:16budget. The Yabber K2S smart projector
8:18retails for 21,990
8:21pesos. However, at the time we recorded
8:23this video, it’s currently discounted at
8:24just 18,690 pesos. At its full SRP, it’s
8:28a very expensive projector considering
8:31the issues we encountered with it. But
8:33at the discounted price, it’s something
8:34you should definitely consider for your
8:36simple home theater setup. Well, that’s
8:39assuming the other units address the
8:41brightness issue that we talked about
8:43earlier. But still, what do you guys
8:45think of the Yabber K2S smart projector?
8:48Is this the projector you would consider
8:49for your room or even home theater? Or
8:52would you choose something else that
8:53offers a bit more or something that’s
8:55more on the budget friendly side?
