The latest HSDPA 3G modem from Smart Bro and Globe Visibility were manufactured by ZTE in China. Both are practically plug-and-play devices. The problem is running both softwares (3G dialers) on the same PC.

I asked readers a couple of weeks ago how much they spend on mobile 3G. Out of the 241 who cast their votes, almost half of them says they don’t use 3G at all. The other half is spread from a low Php100 to over Php2,000 per month.

PLDT’s new phone service, called Ask PLDT, allows subscribers call 101-811 to ask for information regarding household tips, news, entertainment, biggest shopping events, daily horoscope and jokes, public advisories and other general information. The first 30 information requested per month are free but subsequent requests will be charged Php2.50 each.

Got a tip that the recently announced Sun Cellular Wireless Broadband service will be priced at Php999 per month with unlimited usage. Sun Cellular’s 3G will use a similar USB dongle. This is so far the cheapest and only unlimited 3G provider in the Philippines. However, since Sun Cellular has just started rolling out their HSDPA network, 3G coverage will be limited to several areas in Metro Manila.

This just out. Globe is officially releasing the iPhone 3G this August 22, 2008. Interested buyers may contact Globe to get early reservations on a unit.

According to a recent disclosure by PLDT, Smart’s wireless services are still growing pretty strong. Leading the pack is the fixed-wireless service Smart Bro, closing it to half a million subscribers since it first launched 3 years ago.
