At the Computex 2011 in Taiwan, Asus Chairman unveiled their latest smartphone-tablet combo — the Asus ~~Pad Phone~~ PadFone.

The PadFone is an Android smartphone that you can plug at the back of a bigger tablet. It’s definitely a big departure from the current line-up of Android handsets.

The ASUS Padfone is a device that explores one possible convergence between two popular mobile devices â€” the smartphone and the tablet. The Padfone solves the problem of data transfer hassles and multiple SIM cards when both a smartphone and 3G tablet are used. With the Padfone, the smartphone docks inside the tablet to give users an expanded view to suit their tasks.

With the phone docked, it can recharge from the tablet’s larger battery and the tablet can also make use of the smartphone’s 3G internet connection. The dual interfaces for both the pad and phone ensure an enhanced user experience as the layout is automatically adjusted for all activities such as video conferencing, web browsing, and emailing.

Having to use only a single sim to use both the devices is truly exceptional.I think Asus has got beyond the smarphone era and their Pasfone just seems to have proven it to the world!

I just thought of a possible “scenario” that makes this very appealing: upgrading. If the dock can be used for new future, better, stronger phones than all you have to do is buy the newer better phone and you’re actually getting 2 new gadgets in one!–> a new phone plus an upgraded tablet! beat the hell out of buying a new iphone and ipad. It will be like upgrading the graphics card of your PC. as NVIDIA keeps pumping out stronger and faster SoC’s with more cores and GPU’s, you can’t keep buying the same tech over and over again just for the new nvidia chip. This allows you to just upgrade your tech! Now if only ASUS can pull this through. Keeping my fingers crossed.

This is yet another reason why Google Android is the future and Apple iOS is the past. Every month there are new and exciting things happening with Android, new phones, new tablets and everything in between. Android offers many choices, Apple only offers one.

It’s a re-do of the Motorola Atrix that docks on a an full-sized laptop “accessory.” The tablet+smartphone combo shows the computing prowess of the smartphone but I think there are very few scenarios in reality necessitating use of the combo aside from demos or flaunting IMHO. The Transformer is another story — one that is more practical and more convincing.

Simply AWESOME. ASUS might not have the best marketing, but they really make astounding devices. And here are proofs of it. They also showed off a new thin notebook named ASUS UX21 that will obviously go head to head with MacAir and Dell XPs15. it could also be a laptop…
i think it can also be docked with the eee pad transformer’s keyboard dock.. i saw a picture of it’s bottom, it looks like that of the eee pad transformer..
i hope this will be as cheap as the eee pad transformer..
