HTC Tattoo could be cheapest Android phone

People have been wondering why Android phones like the ones made by HTC aren’t that affordable considering that the OS is practically free. Well, the HTC Tattoo could be it — if you think the rumored $300 price tag is already affordable.

HTC and Smart could soon be offering this handset in the Philippines. We’re not sure if it will be exclusive and be locked to a subscription plan.

htc tattoo

2.8 inch touchscreen @ 240×320 pixels
256 MB RAM, 512 MB ROM
528 MHz Qualcomm CPU
up to 16GB with a microSD card
3G (HSDPA, 7.2 Mbps; HSUPA, 384 kbps)
WiFi 802.11 b/g
Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP
Stereo FM radio with RDS
3.15 MP AF camera @ 2048×1536 pixels
GPS with A-GPS support

Nevertheless, the specs are decent enough for the retail price of $300. Hopefully, when it arrives here it would be under Php20k.

If it comes under 17k or is brought to Globe with a plan that is reasonable I think I am going to have to ditch my Nokia 5800 XM for this.

2.8″ screen maybe a little too small for comfortable typing using a virtual keypad.

yeah… more unit selection for the consumer. But I think the new handset will be a hit for techie consumers and not very much for people who does not know anything about Android… which is one of the selling point of this handset.. even though it’s free.

    just my 2 cents!! ;)

Wow! Props to HTC! Surprised me a bit considering how much a phone made by them usually costs!

The Sense UI which is first introduced in the HTC Hero will also be present in the Tatoo. The said UI will make it easier for end-users to operate the device. Check out the Hero videos and you’ll get the idea

    @Yuga

One question, is it a capacitive or a resistive screen?

It says on gsmarena that the screen is resistive. Perhaps the first resistive screen android phone?

I think htc phones in the phil are overpriced. Or maybe i just dont know where to look.

ey guys, the sense ui is amazing.i live in europe for now and android is really customizable,im using HTC Hero Europe’s Version (different from the chinless Hero in the US) … if u ever get this one, u can check out modaco or xda-devs, they’ve got tons of mods in there.
im just wondering, since mobile internet here is relatively cheap(you get 1Gb of data with your plan), how much does it cost in there.im planning to go back there next year and i dunno how im going to live without email on my phone and stuff..

@sir abe – do we get charged by the minute for every email received/sent? are there telcos there who offer like 500mb of data with a fixed monthly cost? prepaid and postpaid.. thanks

Wow phones are getting closer with the old times Personal Computers…

remember the times when Pentium 133 and 266 MHZ is running on Windows 95…

But with the specs of this phone…

You can even install the basic Windows XP on it if its storage meets the minimum requirements,,,LOL

But I think Linux is much better… If only all of us patronize it…

The reason why Android powered phone arent cheap is because most people don’t know a thing about Android!

Ooh, I want~ <3. I hope it doesn't come locked though. Cellphone plans are such a hassle in the Philippines.

Ooh, I want ~ <3. I hope it's not tied down to a provider though. Being stuck with a cellphone plan in the Philippines is just WAY too expensive.

I’m waiting for a LED Flash for the Camera first.

Samsung has it with Android but higher end but low resolution.

Come on China! They are soon to come out with a cool Android!!!
