LG Mobile is the first one to introduce an affordable, full touchscreen phone in the market. Banking on the popularity of touchscreen devices and marketing it to folks with a limited budget, LG is poised to grab a segment that might just bite the cookie.
Make and Construction
The LG Cookie is surprisingly thin and light, maybe because it’s made up of lightweight plastic all over (yet, doesn’t look cheap or ugly). It’s probably one of the lightest phone ever (comparable to the old generation Nokia 8210) for its size. Fits snugly in the palm of the hand.

The front side, just below the screen, has three equally-sized buttons with specific functions – one for the phone menu, the middle for the favorited and running applications and the right-most button for the home screen and power button.
On the right side, you have the microSD expansion slot, the dedicated camera button and a screen-lock button. The left side has the volume control and audio/power USB port.
Plain and Simple
The LG Cookie doesn’t pack enough features that would attract those who want good wireless connectivity on their phone. The absence of WiFi and 3G connectivity was a huge sacrifice and will turn-off people who expects them as a staple feature on high-end mobile phones.
However, the LG Cookie is actually not a high-end phone but a mid-level one so you don’t line it up against the likes of the Omnia, iPhone or XPeria. It’s an entirely new model in a segment that has no counterpart with other brands. As such, we’ll look at the phone and focus on its main selling point – the touch screen interface.
The Flash UI
The biggest selling point of the LG Cookie, aside from the price-point, is the touch screen interface. It’s very responsive, without any noticeable delays, and applications launch quite fast .
LG did a good job with the user interface of the LG Cookie. The main panel displays widgets you can drag around the screen as well as hide or add new widgets. The widgets serve as a launching point to frequently-used functions – photogallery, contacts, music player, clock or calendar.
The phone comes with a small stylus tucked at the bottom part which you can use when needed. However, I didn’t find much need for it since you can easily navigate around using your fingers. The only time I used the stylus is when I use the keyboard horizontally and because the phone has haptic feedback, even the non-qwerty keyboard is much easier to use than expected.
The Quirks
There were several minor functions that I find a bit jarring at the least. One is the audio jack which I don’t really recognize – it shares the same port as the USB power but it’s not the usual microUSB either. I think it’s a proprietary port that’s exclusive to LG phones. That means you can’t hook up a regular 2.5mm or 3.5mm jack into it.
The 3.0MP camera takes grainy photos even with sufficient ambient light. Didn’t upload the pictures i took because they’re not that good at all.
Conclusion
Despite its shortcomings, I think the LG Cookie makes up for a good touch screen phone. It doesn’t have the best touch UI we’ve seen or used but it has great promise. Add that to the fact that it’s priced very affordably (SRP at Php11,900), people looking for an alternative touch screen phone will enjoy using the LG Cookie and offers great value at its price-point. LG should have more trust on their flash UI with the touch screen – I believe it is good enough for the user to ditch the stylus.

How and reliable is the video clip recording with Cookie? Is there any problems with the clip length?
My phone (V6 maxx) was snatched in Baguio last week so I decided to buy a new cellphone. I checked the web about cheap (below P12,000) and latest cps and found lg cookie and sony ericsson C510. I preferred SE c510 at first but when I’m in the store I landed buying LG Cookie instead at P10,000. It has the latest firmware so I never experienced the “restarting and resetting bug” as of yet. I managed to download and installed games, apps and wallpaper via mobile9.com and getjar.com and so far no problem. I was able to browse the internet but its a little expensive because of multitasking issue where in your connection intermittently log off when you leave the browser. My P100 load was gone for only 6 minutes of browsing including a couple of jar downloads.
It’s a nice cellphone and loving it. Could love it more kung merong wifi lol. Playing sound is great.

Hi everyone…Please help me with my problem..
I have an LG KP500,but I can’t received MMS..
pwede ba gamitin yung sun broadband sim dito para makapag internet, nakakapag download ba dito ng mga movies direct sa internet?
i got mine last may 28 from memoxpres MOA. not even 2 months the shutdown restart problem came in. i took it back to the store where i bought it and they had it fixed by their LG authorized service at SM MegaMall. 9days later the phone was returned to me with an upgraded firmware from V10b to V10d. they said, that will fix the issue.
not even a day of its use after the firmware upgrade, it was so funny because you cant read clearly almost everything. check this out, the icon description has either missing letters, mixed up letters, or both…haha. another thing, when you check your sms from any folders, you’ll be surpised to see the same problem. you cant even read those messages. and heres more….start composing an sms using the horizontal keyboard and you’ll find also the keys for many of its letters blank…haha…you should see these man……darn crazy displays dude.
i liked this phone a lot when i saw it from a TV ad. too bad it has problems like this.
i contacted LG online support but i think it cant help to resolve the issue. Online support is a BPO (call center agent support) and is not capable of making decisions to resolve issues like this.
for me, i dont mind getting a fresh replacement as long as they fix the darn problem right. the problem is, LG Philippines is not too supportive, i must say, they tend to be more of evasive rather.
on the day i returned again the phone to the store (MX MOA) incidentally, an LG salesman was there and i took that chance to ask the guy if there are issues on their cookie. i just thought, since that dude works for LG, he can help me get this thing elevated to the one in charge of customer issues but according to him, “its an issue that he is not even aware of. he even dont know who from LG takes care of customer issues.” hahahah…..what an absolute liar (possibly) i must say.
comming from an ISO9001 certified company and with their phlosophy of providing support and listening to their customers (you should see their web page saying these), i believe they are not keeping it up with their sworn commitment. check this out at
http://www.lge.com/ae/support/index.jsp?countryCd=ae
ok, so much for that. 3days after i took the phone back to the store (august 28, 2009) i was advised by Mega Mall MX service that the need to replace the main board. hahah….i told them, you rip the board off, that means you need to remove again a lot of screws, the LCD, the camera…etc, etc.
what the heck, i bought a brand new phone at its price. Now, i’m about to own a phone that is not even two months being used, spent 1 month of its time at a service center and guess what, the phone is torn down dissasembled many times.
i am trying to demand from LG Phils to either replace my phone to a fresh, bug free, firmware updated cookie unit. otherwise, i think i deserve a full refund.
i’ll update this comment as soon as this thing either gets ignored ore gets resolved.
stay tuned guys, hold your decisions on buying this one before you get pissed off with the same problems.
and for those who have not encountered this problem, i wish i was the same lucky guy like you who got a good unit. like you, i also like this phone even if it does not have a wifi or a lousy camera. the thing is, i still do like this phone, i just dont like the one i got.
)
if only i could put attachment to this message, you’ll see what i meant when i said, letters from words either gets mixed up or gets missing or both….
unt l my n xt pd te…… w cth o t fo th s!

hi i have lg arena and lg cookie its very beutiful
I just got mine last week so far so good.:-) I hope it wont affect of so called bug..:-0
guyz meron akong nabasa sa isang site na sinasabi na kaya daw nag rerestart 0r namamatay is because meron xiang settings na auto off na nakaka save ng battery pero pwede mo nman daw yun alisin if u want.
piste mu….,walang hiya….hahahah…fuck u
i bought mine last Christmas. But around June it was not working so well. It suddenly turns off when i’m sending group messages, then turns on again. i tried to look for the messages that i was about to send, in the drafts, outbox, sent items, but as if i didn’t compose a message. then one time, while my classmate was playing it, it suddenly turns off, it was a bit embarrassing. Then yesterday, someone was calling me, when i was about to answer it, my phone suddenly shuts off. But i swear, the battery was definitely full. And after opening my phone, everything changed, as if it was brand new. My settings were all lost. Such a disappointment.
I should have made a better choice.
That’s why i’m planning to buy sony ericsson t707(is it already out in the philippines?).
got my LG KP500 Cookie a day ago, gift sakin ng daddy ko, hmm, just wish it woulnt turn of/restart by itself. ok lang din walang 3G, wala naman kwenta 3g. sa wifi issue, though its handy if it has, i have my net at home and a communicator as well, so got no problem connecting on the web. responsive touchscreen, nice sleek design. i’d rate it 8.5 out of 10, i loooove “message received”.lol
onga pla, camera issue is not a problem if you have a nice digicam. you can sync it to your pc and just save it on the phone.
