Just got an SMS confirmation from Globe that they’ve already rolled out and servicing customers on their WiMax network. I’m still getting the details but the Inquirer ran the story last night that it will be 512Kbps at Php799 per month. This service will certainly be competing against Smart Bro’s Fixed Wireless offering.
Will update this post once I get the copy of the press release. Intel’s timing was just right when we had the WiMax forum yesterday.

Globe is first in the Philippines to launch Wimax. Available starting March 2009, the company’s WIMAX package is a high-speed Internet plan that lets users surf the web at speeds of up to 512kbps for only PHP795 per month. The package also comes with an aggressive money-back guarantee. “We challenge anyone with a competitive wireless subscription to try out our Wimax-backed plans. We are so confident with our service that we challenge you try out our connection, risk-free. Should you be unhappy with the connection within one month from installation, we’ll give you your money-back, no questions asked,” says Menchi Orlina, head of the Consumer Broadband Business Group.
The service is initially available in selected areas in South Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Globe will continue to roll-out hundreds of WiMAX sites, as a complement to its existing DSL and 3G internet facilities, to ensure the internet gets to every Filipino who needs it.

WiMAX is short for Worldwide interoperability for Microwave Access. It is a standards-based technology designed to enable the deployment of wireless broadband access as a cost-efficient alternative to cable and DSL; WIMAX also has improved reach and can cover distances greater than those covered by other wireless technologies like WiFi, CDMA, or 3G.
Globe’s network is considered the first and biggest 2.5Ghz WiMAX (802.16e) broadband network in South East Asia.

problem na na encounter ko is fluctuating ang signal. 1Mbps inapplyan namin pero pag nag check sa speedtest.net di pa umabot ng 1Mbps. madaya kasi binayaran namin is for 1mbps pero di maibigay yung speed na binayaran namin. in addition, am not sure if some of you guys encountered this. may mg website na di ma open like gsmarena.com at links sa twitter. nag try ako using our old ISP na digitel @512mbps nakaka connect naman at na oopen yung mga web site. i used 2 different laptops at mag katabi pa siya. di ko alam bakit ganun..

oo madaya talaga ang Globe hndi nila binibigay yung talagang speed…yung 1mbps nila is 512kbps lang.. d2 sa Isabela Province ok naman daw ang speed 1mbps..ewan lang dko pa kc nasubukan,hehehe…location mo ba kaloy?
Kainis talaga yang Globe,tanong ko lang pwede ko pa ba padisconnect globe wimax plan 1mbps,morethan 1 week na namin gamit nung una nsa 3 bar lang signal at ang DL speed nya ay naabot ng almost 20kbps,kaya nilipat ko ang extension antenna ng mas mataas,aba ayos nagfull bar ang signal pero bakit ganun mas lalo bumagal ang surfing lalo na ang DL speed di na naabot ng 10kbps….ano to lokohan mas mabilis pa ung dating gamit ko na smartbro plan 384, naabot ng 40kbps ang DL speed.
try downloading Download Accelerator Plus. I am also using Globe Wimax. I was able to reach 200kbps when downloading but normally it is aroung 100kbps

oo pwede mo padisconnect yan kahit anong oras…sobrang baba naman ang DL ng wimax mo plan 1mbps pa..san ba location mo?
Hahaha. Kaka receive ko lang ng confirmation sa text about my online application for Globelines DSL. Plano ko sana DSL yung i-papakabit ko with landline sa bahay namin at sabi nila wala daw DSL, WiMax lang daw available. LOL. Sa ganitong comment since day 1 ng WiMax, di na ako magdadalawang isip. I’ll stick with PLDT. XD
I’ve just bought a Globe Wimax Bm622. Very bad, when I used the Demo unit the internet connection is fast and consistent so I decided to buy expecting the same speed and performance. Hi all. Mag wa-1 month na akong subscriber ng Globe Wimax. Ka no-normal lang ng speed ko after 24 hours ng paputol putol. Sa isang buwan naka apat na interruptions na whereas sa PLDT DSL namin dati ang interruption ay average once every two months lang. Minsan nga wala pa. Yun nga lang nakakainis ang dagdag ng 600 pesos sa useless na landline so I’ll stick it out with Globe. for now.

i hate globe wimax…i’m pissed off…it annoys me a lot and affects my job as an online teacher. You better not subscribe if you’re planning to have an internet connection you better choose smart.it’s faster and they have great service and offers. ok talaga ung globe wimax sa loob ng 1month moneyback guarantee nila excellent ung signal,but after that palagi na didisconnect pag nereklamo active namam ung connection,pero di ka makapagbrowse di pa nila aayusin …ganon din daw ung karanasan ng ibang customers nila sabi ng messenger na nagdedeliver ng bill.

Ano ba ang magandang option. Kailangan ko talaga ng dependable internet connection eh. Muntik na akong magpakabit ng Globe Wimax. Buti nalang i saw your responses. May calls pa naman ako na kailangan using the internet. I’ve tried SUN and SmartBro USBs and they are both pathetic… kundi 1 to 2 bars ang signal eh wala talagang signal

i read all ur comment here im same with u all desappointed in wmax to the point n nainis n ko mag bayad sa kanila kc 1n 1 mo. nagamit ko lng cya n 6 or 9 times tutol putol pa what a shit they are doing to people they send tech,but they dont have idia whts going on.if u go to office they will try to explain…my concern now they cut my conection .now they send me bill .like 7000 piso for 2.5 mo. bill.what if i will not pay what they can. do..pls.ans. if someone have same prob..tc
pwede bang kabitan ng wifi router yung bagong labas na wimax ngayon? nag inquire kasi kami at nag apply ng globe sabi di daw pwede.. yung bagong labas nila ngayon hindi na parang tabo.. pina nipis na nila.. slim na ang dating nya.. pwede din kaya yun lagyan ng router.
@nerissa need to pay ur bills asap, dahil magpapadala cla ng NBI personel pag lagpas n sa contract and still no payment, tos magkakaroon kapa n problem regarding criminal clearances.. good luck.
