Just got an SMS confirmation from Globe that they’ve already rolled out and servicing customers on their WiMax network. I’m still getting the details but the Inquirer ran the story last night that it will be 512Kbps at Php799 per month. This service will certainly be competing against Smart Bro’s Fixed Wireless offering.
Will update this post once I get the copy of the press release. Intel’s timing was just right when we had the WiMax forum yesterday.

Globe is first in the Philippines to launch Wimax. Available starting March 2009, the company’s WIMAX package is a high-speed Internet plan that lets users surf the web at speeds of up to 512kbps for only PHP795 per month. The package also comes with an aggressive money-back guarantee. “We challenge anyone with a competitive wireless subscription to try out our Wimax-backed plans. We are so confident with our service that we challenge you try out our connection, risk-free. Should you be unhappy with the connection within one month from installation, we’ll give you your money-back, no questions asked,” says Menchi Orlina, head of the Consumer Broadband Business Group.
The service is initially available in selected areas in South Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Globe will continue to roll-out hundreds of WiMAX sites, as a complement to its existing DSL and 3G internet facilities, to ensure the internet gets to every Filipino who needs it.

WiMAX is short for Worldwide interoperability for Microwave Access. It is a standards-based technology designed to enable the deployment of wireless broadband access as a cost-efficient alternative to cable and DSL; WIMAX also has improved reach and can cover distances greater than those covered by other wireless technologies like WiFi, CDMA, or 3G.
Globe’s network is considered the first and biggest 2.5Ghz WiMAX (802.16e) broadband network in South East Asia.
Bad trip, halos di ko magamit internet ko. Tinapon ko ang Digitel ko two weeks ago in favor of GLOBE WIMAX tapos mas malala pa problema ko ngayon. Halos katabi ko lang celsite ng globe dito sa bocaue.

Medyo mabilis naman po yung wimax na 512kbps, just apply and try, kapag hindi kayo kuntento sa bilis nya sa loob ng 30 days pwede naman palitan.

ano po model ng modem nyo?
if speedtest ,net is true globe wimax could exceed 1mbps kung ibibigay ng globe at kung responsable ang mga kawani nila o mga contractors nila.
in my case , after six months of continuous and consistent complaining about the system pinuntahan ako kahapon ng managers nung technical staff nila o contractors , i dont kno,
after six months kahapon lang nalaman na hindi pala naka configure to 1mbps ang unit ko kya puro .50 mbps ang speed,worst parating down ang system nila kaya every other day complain ako dahil mgbabayad daw ako ng pre termination fee kung ipaaalis ko ito,
, to add ,since december i was paying the price of the 1mbps for their .512 intermittent service , ang pinakamasama ako pa ang sinigaw sigawan ng customer service officer nila sa INNOVE, S.M. SAN FERNANDO PAMPANGA nung nagcocomplain ako nung june 8 2010

SMART WiMAX nlng kasi kau. Pangit equipment(Huawei modem) ng Globe pati service nila

wag na kayo pakabit ng globe wimax lolokohin lang kayo… 1mbps na speed daw ang makukuha lang 300kbps… haha nakakatawang rason nila… yan daw talaga.. 1mpbs nila 300kbps lang kahit off peak pa… dapat nilagay na lang nila sa poster nila 300kbps hindi na 1mbps kagaguhan

hey guys! i’m currently subscribed to the 3g service but i’m planning to have it migrated to wimax kaso after checking this review, i’m having second thoughts.. i have a lot of issues regarding the service that i have now.. sobrang intermittent connection ko even on non-peak hours plus the DL speed really isn’t that good as well.. not to mention that i live at a 3-storey house with a rooftop and close to their cell sites.. i don’t know much about wimax and stuff except the fact that it also is signal based.. if i had the service changed to wimax, will i be able to atleast get the speed that i’ll be signing up for? and is it even available here in y area? (dagupan city, pangasinan)

Nagumpisa sa akin magloko glob wimax kapahon. May connection signal strength niya nasa 75 percent to 80 percent. Tapos test ko bandwidth speed ko nasa 600Kbps naman pero ayaw mag connect sa net kung makaka open ka page ang tagal naman mag open. Mag ping ka ng IP address ng website my connection naman. Pero pag punta mo sa website can not connect. Ala naman akong firewall o filters.
Pano ba malalaman kung 300kbps lang pala yung 1mbps na connection?
pangit globe… sinungaling pa, may nag-ahente samin sabi libre daw ang 1 month, processing fee lang ba2yan 4thou, nun pala wala naman ganun promo… expect ko 1 month lang ba2yaran ko nung nagpunta ako sa globe business center d2 sa lugar namin (waltermart Plaridel, Bulacan), ang sabi ng cashier 3months daw ba2yaran ko, kasi 1 month advance daw, at yung 2 months na na-consume, samantalang ang sabi ng ahente, libre yung first month.. kaya pala after 2months tinawagan ako ng globe, need ko na daw magbayad kasi mlapit na daw nila i-disconnect account ko pag di ako nagbayad… anong klaseng ahente ba kinukuha nila, mga nanloloko.. at isa pa ang sabi ni ahente wala daw kontrata, kahit daw kailan pwede ipatanggal basta hindi mo na nagustuhan yung service, nun pala 1 year kontrata, gusto ko na sana ipatanggal non, pero sabi sa Globe, babayaran ko daw yung kontrata 2,500… O di ba cnungaling sila… putol-putol naman connection… nawawala signal… pero ngayon wala nako problema, kasi tapos na kontrata ko, pinatanggal ko na sya!!! PAnget!!!
my nagpunta ding agent sa lugat namen,. ung mom q ung nkausap kya nag try daw xa,.3 months free daw kc? well, d nmn masama mag try,.and share q lng,.actually nka smart share it aq naun,.(2Mbps daw)at almost 10% lng ung npapakinabangan q coz nsa 90Kbps lng ang average DL speed, VERY POOR din ung grade q sa pingtest.net,.proven q kc all day internet user aq..so let’s see kun merung ibubuga 2ng GLOBE,.within 5 days p daw kc darating ung magkakabit…=)
this is weird, kasi nagpakabit kami ng wimax dito sa cavite. pero wired siya!! ano ba un?
