Smart to start charging Php2 per 1MB this November 28

Listen to article

Smart has announced last week that they will be changing their default data charging rate from Php5 for 15 minutes to Php2 for every 1MB. This is effective November 28, 2017. The new Php2/MB rate now removes the default time-based charging for all Smart Postpaid accounts.

We are enhancing our pay-per-use data billing model of Php 5 for every 15 minutes of data consumed to Php 2 for every 1MB consumed. With this enhancement, we will be able to better serve you and your data needs. Please read below to know the new benefits, features, and change in postpaid experience — Effective November 28, 2017

All existing Smart postpaid comes with an Add-on Data Plan. If the data allocation for the plan has been completely depleted, subscribers may choose to (1) subscribe to another data add-on plan OR (2) enroll to the Php2/MB default data rate by texting DATA ON to 9999.

You get notifications when your Php2/MB usage reaches Php500, Php1,000 and Php2,000 amount. The additional charges stop at Php2,500 so you won’t pay for data more than this amount. Technically, you will get unlimited data at Php2,500. However, your speed will be throttled to just 128Kbps until the end of the billing cycle.

congratulations smart, you have reached a new level of dumb!
im a heavy bandwidth user, i currently use PLDC, i mean pldt lol.
normally, i consume around 1gb of data a day. and 9-10gb when i do something heavy like downloading.
jesus, ph will be the laughing stock once again in the international forums…
we will be heavily shatted upon once again by foreigners, because anywhere else has better internet plans
than our developing country,

LOL! what part kaya ng statement ang magulo?

SMART will still have its data plan promos, this will only take effect once your ADD ON DATA PROMOS, DATA PLAN runs OUT, the USER still decides if he will get another DATA PROMO or THIS NEW DATA charges..

anong pinag sasabi nyo mga kalokohan dyan?

bogo ka! “We are enhancing our pay-per-use data billing model of Php 5 for every 15 minutes of data consumed to Php 2 for every 1MB consumed.”

“All existing Smart postpaid comes with an Add-on Data Plan. If the data allocation for the plan has been completely depleted, subscribers may choose to (1) subscribe to another data add-on plan OR (2) enroll to the Php2/MB default data rate by texting DATA ON to 9999.”

If you’re not heavy on data usage, you can opt to register to GIGA50 for 1GB (3 days). para tipid. Which is in my case, impossible.

Kaya kung hindi ka affected, good for you. But let those who will be affected by this new scheme (like me) to voice out their anger.

how about prepaid are we also affected by these? I sometimes use the minute based charging to download huge files using LTE/4G.

This new profit-oriented gimmick by Smart is ridiculous. I encourage others to file a complaint to NTC just as I did. This is the link: http://ncr.ntc.gov.ph/?page_id=19.

Hopefully the government will have the balls to reverse this or order the telcos to at least offer reasonable rates.

By the way Globe does the same.

35 to 45 cents per MB sounds fair for postpaid subscribers.

is not this an overpriced allocation in Postpaid subscribers? if a postpaid subscriber consumed 600MB on top of his plan399 with 3GB allocation. He will pay Php1200 more?

Damn! I’m a heavy data user. And my bill is pegged at ~P2,500/month. it is very seldom that I encounter slowdowns. I consume over 1.25GB/day. With this new data charging, I can only enjoy LTE speeds for 1 day (1.24GB = P2,500) and the rest of days (29-30 days) of my billing cycle, my speed will be throttled to 128kbps (unless I register to other data packages)?! Tama ba pagka-intindi ko? Damn!

Prepaid vs postpaid pricing. Apples to oranges. Mas better comparison is Smart 1gb open access + 300mb youtube for 50php for 3 days. That’s 2GB open access plus 600mb for YouTube for 100php vs 2gb nyo for 90 for 7 days.

So good job sa comparison mo.

JU

i can not take smart’s word that it will be better. it will be more expensive. Just imagine how many mb does a web site has? if it’s 5mb then everytime you load that site, 10 will be charged everytime. kalokohan sinasabi nilang better service because you will pay more.

bale, 500 pesos for 250MB of data?
