Listen to article

Today marks the official arrival of Android One in the country. For the uninitiated, Android One is Google’s global initiative to bring low-cost and respectable smartphone in developing countries such as India, Indonesia and Philippines.

As part of the Android One program, the search giant teams up with two of the most popular local smartphone brands namely Cherry Mobile and MyPhone. In line with this, Google and its two partner brands have launched the Cherry Mobile One and MyPhone Uno.

Apart from bringing quality hardware to Filipinos with the help of their partner manufacturers, Google has also teamed up with local telcos Smart and Sun Cellular to provide free over-the-air (OTA) updates for the first six months, as well as app downloads at no extra cost during the same duration.

We’re currently on site to give you guys an early preview of the two Android One devices that were launched toady so stay tuned for that.

cherry mobile and myphone are just rebranded karbonn and micromax so technically, they would be the one releasing android one devices. It’s not really about cheap or being the most popular of the three. Starmobile is a real pinoy phone and is not rebranded that is whe they weren’t partnered with android one.

Sana Starmobile na lang kinuha nila or MyPhone. Sa lahat ng local smartphone companies Cherry ang pinaka-sirain at walang kwenta ang post-sales.

or mas maganda hintayin yung 2nd batch ng android one.
Mahirap ng maging early adopter

Android One phones have to be cheap and have to appear cheap to attract the target market. And since CM/MyPhone attracts that market…it makes good business sense to partner with them.

6months free OTA via smart/sun? Pero two years pa rin ang support ng google para sa OS diba? Mahalaga dito rin ay price. Kapag lumagpas yan sa P5k, olats.

Cherry mobile?! Yuck. wrong move google. it’s more acceptable if they’d get starmobile over cherry. anyways, myphone is ok.

i lol’ed at these cherry haterz.
Starmobile? Seriously, is your hatred so intense that you’d rather waste money on overpriced pieces of cow manure? Come on, cherry and myphone’s OEM partners, Karbonn and Micromax had already launched these phones in India. Basically, there’s nothing Google can do when these OEM’s have already partnered with these guys.

I think pwede naman i offer yan ng ibang local phone company.. si myphone at cherry ang nakapag bigay ng requirement kay google..

karbonn and micromaxx as well as xolo phone mga rebranders lang din yan sa india. di sila nakikipagpartner dyan, oems lang tlga mga partner ng mga yan..ska open sa lahat ng brands yan basta makuha nila dapat ang requirements ni android one
