Western Union has officially launched its first mobile app in the Philippines, making the country the first market worldwide to support both sending and receiving international money transfers in a single platform.

Unlike previous versions in Asia-Pacific that only allowed users to claim remittances, the new app lets Filipinos request money from relatives abroad and send transfers directly to other countries. This rollout underscores the Philippines’ massive remittance market, which reached a record USD 38 billion in 2024, ranking it as the fourth largest recipient globally, according to the BSP and World Bank.
The app links to Western Union’s extensive network of bank accounts, digital wallets, and agent outlets across the globe. Transactions can be paid through QR PH and tracked with a unique MTCN code for added security. Users can receive money as cash pickup, direct bank deposit, or wallet transfer and even re-transfer funds once received.
By rolling out this feature first in the Philippines, Western Union positions the country as a testbed for its fully integrated digital remittance service.
