Low-income households get free electricity for April and May

Listen to article

The IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases) announced yesterday that low-income households will no longer be changed for electricity bills this March and April.

Those who qualify for the free electricity are households that consume 50kWh per month or less. An estimated 3 million consumers across the country will benefit from this payment relief.

Likewise, the National Electrification Administration has announced that at least 90 electric cooperatives nationwide are granting 30-day grace period for bills that fall within the quarantine period (March 15 to April 30, 2020). This means no penalties, interests or charges for late payments of electric bills during the said period.

Just to clarify, this is ONLY applicable for customers under electric cooperatives. If you’re under Meralco, you will still pay even if your bill is under 50KWhr.
