Duterte plans to blow telecom cartels to improve PH internet

Listen to article

Sign of better days ahead? Presumptive President Rodrigo Duterte has announced his plans to deal with telecommunications and energy cartels in an effort to improve both industries in the country.

GMA News Online reported that the incoming President will create new policies to make internet speeds faster for everyone. He may also resort to other options such as opening the competition to foreign players if the current telco players fails to shape up.

Duterte has said in earlier interviews that he will directly confront telco executives on ways to fix the current internet situation. “Wala akong panahong makipagdaldalan. I’d talk to the telecommunications people and ask, ‘Ano bang problema n’yo?‘” (I do not have time for chitchat. I’d talk to the telecommunications people and ask, ‘What is your problem?’) Duterte said in a townhall meeting hosted by CNN Philippines.

If we may recall, the PH still has one of the lowest internet speeds in Asia, currently averaging at 3.2Mbps according to Akamai’s State of the Internet Q4 2015 report.

Open the market globally – the more, the better. Ang makikinabang ditto ay masa.

How can we expect improvements in Telco and Energy sectors, eh ang pag-penalize nga sa kanila, either non-existent or masyadong mababaw.

Easiest thing to do is to penalize them big time (and not pass on back to the consumers) if they failed to meet your set targets. And when I mean big time is to make them hurt (really bad). Let’s see if they can’t do anything to improve.

A Filipino in the UK could buy and own 100%, every company in the UK if he had the money. He could buy every property in the UK if he could afford it. He could then criticise the Prime Minster, or any other government official, or the system, without fear of deportation. The Philippines is so racist.

Let the work do the talking.

So Noynoy has nothing to do with DAP and the Mamasapano Incident? After all, “tumunganga” lang siya for the whole six years, right?

Questioning the high tax system, curfew and liquor ban on midnights, possibly no fircrackers on new year like davao tapos ngayon ay ang mga telcos.

Nothing good about firecracker ban, it is a sign of dictatorial tendencies. High tax? Duterte is the one asking for higher taxes on new cars! Lower taxes must be across the board not just for his favorite class or sector. Sorry but i don’t trust the guy, i don’t care how many people voted for him, it is like Erap all over again but worse with npa communists in the cabinet.

AR
Archie · 10 years ago

He don’t take credits on everything he do. He do them out of his love for the country kaya the best thank you we can do is to put his face on the money like a real hero.
