Gemini for TV announced, Google Assistant to go beyond simple commands

Listen to article

In a recent blog post, Gemini for Google TV has been announced. While not entirely replacing Google Assistant, it helps the existing feature go beyond simple commands.

Users will be able to interact with their TV to get viewing recommendations, show summaries, or find content via description. It can even deliver reviews, recap past seasons for shows, and assist daily tasks by recommending YouTube videos.

It works as usual, by initiating a conversation with the phrase ‘Hey Google’. Of course, the microphone button on remote controls still functions to access Gemini for TV.

At the moment, Gemini for Google TV. is only available on the TCL QM9K line. However, Google will expand the rollout as the year ends.

Supported devices include the Google TV Streamer, 2025 Hisense U7, U8, and UX smart TV line. There’s also the 2025 TCL QM8K and X11K models.

We’ll update readers should we receive more news on additional features to come for Gemini for Google TV. We’ll leave a video below for interested viewers.
