Asus N10 netbook priced at Php39,999

Listen to article

First mentioned back in August, the Asus N10 UMPC is one of the netbooks that’s not part of the Eee PC family. Maybe that’s why they’re twice as expensive.

What makes this UMPC unique amongst the rest is that it comes with discreet graphics — an NVidia 9300M GS 256MB which is also switchable with the onboard Intel GMA950 (Hybrid Graphics).

Complete specs as follows:

Asus N10J
Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz

2GB DDR2 533MHz RAM
320GB HDD
WiFi 802.11b/g/n
1.3MP webcam

8-in-1 card reader (MMC/SD/Mini-SD/XD/Memory Stick/MS Pro/MS Duo/MS Pro Duo)

With the 6-cell battery, it can run up to 6.5 hours on the onboard VGA and 4.5 hours with the discreet graphics. It also has that Express Gate feature that allows you to boot in 10 seconds and quickly access a select number of applications for surfing, voip and IM.

There are severals models: the Asus N10E which has 160GB HDD, 1GB RAM and 3-cell battery has a price tag of Php35,999 and the Asus N10J which has 320GB HDD, 2GB RAM and 6-cell battery is priced at Php39,999 (as listed in PC Corner).

a Php30k price point for a netbook seemed ridiculous. The only remaining thing that classified this one as a netbook is the Atom processor.

could anyone shed light on the performance difference between an Atom processor vs Pentium Dual Core?

@gpc – got the specs and price from the link above on PC Corner.

@raystorm – netbooks are just running Atom CPU at 1.6GHz. If you are after performance, go for the Core 2 Duo.

with all these upgrade on the netbook plus the prices, I am getting confused which one to have as my 2nd laptop. Will the PC corners’ deal on MSI megabook VR340 as published a good value deal in terms of performance and price? Hope i can get a feedback from u guys.

Great specs specially the Express Gate feature. But the price is too much for a netbook.

Hi there. :-)

I think the specs posted above is for the N10J-A2 model. ExcaliberPC is selling it for USD 775 (roughly PHP 38,305.98)
http://www.excaliberpc.com/588597/asus-n10j-a2-10.2-notebook.html

The other model, N10J-A1 retails at USD 675 (~ PHP 33,366.26)
http://www.excaliberpc.com/588596/asus-n10j-a1-10.2-notebook.html

Difference aside from the price? HDD capacity. The former holds 320GB SATA 5400 RPM, the latter only 160GB. I inquired about the N10J at PCCorner and they told me it will be available next month (November 2008). Just don’t know which day of the month it’ll be in store.
