Smartphones nowadays have a trend for a pop-up camera mechanism and Huawei followed this with its launch of the Y9 Prime 2019. Today in specs comparison, I’ll put it beside the VIVO Y17 that launched this year and is in the same price range as Huawei’s newest product. Let’s begin!

Both devices have equally appealing advantages starting with the display. The Y9 Prime 2019 comes with a larger display and better screen resolution. The Y17 is still pretty decent; however, 720p at this price point is not just viable in this year anymore.
For performance, the Y9 Prime sports a Kirin 710 chipset which is the same as Huawei’s iconic Nova 3i. The Y17, on the other hand, sports a MediaTek Helio P35. The former may be slower in terms of highest attainable clock speed, but based on the AnTuTu benchmark scores that we got, it’s still the clear winner in the aspect. Scoring 138, 548, the Kirin 710 has a significant lead over the 87,776 of the Helio P35.
The scores above mean that the Y9 Prime is better in terms of both CPU and gaming performance as compared to the Y17.
For cameras, the Y17 comes with a quadruple rear camera setup with a dedicated macro lens for a better close up shots. It also has a higher main rear and front camera resolution than the Y9 Prime; however, it’s not all about the number of megapixels of a camera. We’ll know more the image quality once we get our hands on both devices in the coming days.
Feature-wise, it’s good to see that the Y9 Prime comes with a faster Wi-Fi speed (WiFi ac) and USB Type-C connectivity. On the other hand, the Y17 has a more updated Bluetooth 5.0 which is preferred by some of the people especially who are into connecting accessories on their devices.
In terms of battery performance, the Y17 carries a larger battery capacity with fast charging while the Y9 Prime 2019 has lower mAh and doesn’t support that technology. Overall, I would say that the former takes the cake in this aspect especially that it will have a lower power consumption thanks to its 720p display.
The Huawei Y9 Prime 2019 is priced at PHP 12,990 while the VIVO Y17 will set you back at PHP 12,999. To summarize, if you are looking for a device that has an all-screen display with faster performance and you are curious about the pop-up camera technology, go with the Y9 Prime 2019. However, if you are more into photography with better battery configuration, go with the VIVO Y17.
