Cavite-wide Fiber Optic Network signed with Converge

Listen to article

The province of Cavite, under Governor Boying Remulla, has signed a memorandum of agreement with Converge to start laying fiber optic cables to service the entire population of the province.

The entire project will be completed in 7 months and will target a minimum speed of 20Mbps for Cavite customers.

Here’s a complete quote from the governor after the signing of this MOA:

Cavite: The Digital Revolution

One of the most painful things to swallow is the news that reaches us that we have the slowest internet in the world.

Nakakahiya.

Two companies, Globe and Smart, constitute the duopoly that has kept us captive as a people.

That is about to end in the Province of Cavite.

And hopefully, the Philippines too.

Yesterday, August 17, 2017, we agreed to allow and help the company called Converge to lay its cables throughout Cavite.

More than 300 kilometers of fiber optic cables will be spread out to all the 7 cities and 16 municipalities of Cavite. We expect this to be finished in less than 7 months.

FIRST CLASS, WORLD CLASS.
That’s our motto.

20 MBPS AVERAGE. That’s our target.

Smart and Globe must face the challenge.

God bless the people of Cavite.

Converge has recently announced new fiber internet plans for as low as Php1,500 a month with speeds from 25Mbps to 500Mbps (see complete broadband plans here).

I applied for a Converge connection, but they replied that they cannot provide service inside my subdivision (although they provide service on the main road outside). I subsequently heard a rumor/hearsay, that they are “not allowed” to come into our subdivision due to an “agreement” with someone or another. I guess the same “agreement” will be made with Dito when it becomes available next year. As I said, this is just hearsay/rumor, so perhaps Converge and Dito will be available here when they are ready to enter the subdivision.

It’s been one (1) year since this news was posted and there is no such thing as FIBERX under Converge here in our town in Indang, Cavite. So whatever happened to all your claims and propaganda of seven (7) months completion in entire Cavite? And our area is right at the central location of the Cavite State University.

Paano naman ang mga subdivision na ayaw papasukin ang mga ganitong internet provider kasi kailangan maglagay sila ng certain amount of money to the developer of the subdivision. Mga mukhang pera, san kaya to pwedeng ireklamo?

In my area in q.c im paying for Php1899 for PLDT for 5mbps.
I talked to Pldt for their upgrade for fiber they dont have it in my area.
I called and took a risk on Converge for their P1,500 for 25 mbps
from 5Mbps to 25 Mbps 5x the speed from pldt to Converge.
i guess PLDT is thinking why are we gonna give you 20+Mbps speed if we can charge you more P1899 for less speed 5Mbps?
Oh! don’t bother Globe, Data Capping or Data Metering is BS!
My gamble paid off in Converge Fiber.
Happy AF!

Di naman siguro gagastos ang provincial govt ng cavite to put the infra for a private company?!! So what is their MOU exclusive with Converge? I supposed it is to expedite the processing of permits etc. But isnt this considered graft when you basically favor one of the private companies. Or pa-epal lang si Gov?

Reply
AB
Abe Olandres Editor-in-chief · 9 years ago

It’s not exclusive. It’s a blanket endorsement so that Converge will not have problems with permits from LGU and HOA. PLDT and Globe can also do the same MOA.
