AIA Lifehackers of AIA Philippines (formerly AIA Philam Life) scrutinized 500 undergraduate college students and young professionals who took the challenge to create the most innovative insurance solutions that will make more Filipinos’ lives healthier, longer, and better.
After three years, the competition was back for its fourth season to pique the minds of the Filipino youth for more innovations as AIA Philippines continues to provide better insurance products and services in the ever-changing times through digitalization. Through AIA Lifehackers, the company also opens opportunities for young professionals to work with the insurance industry leader to further develop their skills.
Included in the categories were Technology or Data Solutions, and Products and Services Solutions. Participants were divided into the college group for students aged 18 to 21, and the young professionals’ group for those employed, aged 21 to 25.
Participants first presented their life-hacking solutions online before giving their best pitches in the final round on a live stage, facing the AIA Philippines executives and the other competitors. They were given the challenge of coming up with solutions that can help address the problem statement: In a cluttered digital landscape where all competitors are trying to catch the attention of consumers, how can quality leads be generated that are primed to either start a conversation with an advisor or purchase a life insurance policy?
The Technology or Data solution category included proposals that used technology or data solutions while the Product and Service solution category is proposals on products and services that can help address the problem statement.
Bagel Beasts won the Technology category under the college students’ group. They created AIA Vitality Pet which turns insurance education, policy selection, and purchases into a game. It brings insurance to young adults by creating a game that visualizes the policy owner as a “pet” they have to nurture and take care of. “Seeing themselves as a pet, users can have more self-empathy, recognizing their personal needs for insurance,” the team said.
To play the game, clients must keep their virtual pets healthy and happy through various activities like exercising, availing of insurance policies, or keeping a healthy diet.
“Having a pet and gamifying the insurance process puts the fun in insurance and helps make insurance not too technical and too serious,” the team said.
As the virtual pet becomes healthier, customers earn reward points they can use for insurance product discounts or for purchases at restaurants and other shops. The team members were Cheska Elise Hung from Ateneo de Manila University, Tofelle John Jipos, John Timothy Mater, Jedrek Rodriguez, and Ella Mae Zhuang from the University of the Philippines.
Meanwhile, the best team for the Products and Services category was Team Pending who proposed AIA Adapt. Highly modularized, AIA Adapt caters to low-income earners who are more prone to financial troubles and yet have no access to tools that can help them gain financial security.
AIA Adapt is broken down into different insurance components – health, family, livelihood, etc – that can be put together like puzzle pieces depending on the needs and income of the user. It can be upgraded or downgraded as needed in response to the fluctuating income sources of the target market, ensuring protection despite financial instability. Plus, it’s web-based so it can be accessed anytime, anywhere. Because the policies are modularized, individuals can easily customize and maintain their set of policies using the AIA Adapt web platform which is easily accessible in a single web platform.
“Through the integration with the web-based application, customers can pay, check and adjust their life insurance anywhere, anytime,” the team said.
Team members from the University of the Philippines are John Markton Olarte, KC Anne Isturis, Misael Angelo Zausa, Mariefher Grace Villanueva, and Erru Torculas.
For the young professionals’ group, the best team under the Technology category was John 10:10 who proposed the all-in-one My AIA Super App. It is similar to Lazada, Shopee, or KonsultaMD where customers can chat with advisors and browse through insurance and financial-related news, as well as see insurance product reviews.
As a super app, customers can purchase products featured in the AIA Vitality app and earn reward points or join online raffles.
My AIA Super App’s chatbot and features make insurance education and purchase more fun and engaging.
Team members are Victor Carlo Chan from IBM Business Services, Albert Cona of Arcadian, and Rick Zafe from AiPaygo.
“With gamification, customers are more eager to learn about insurance and avail of policies. Because it is also both a communication and news channel, inquiries and conversations between the financial advisors are less intimidating,” the team said.
For the Products or Services category, Team IndieCo dominated with its online Forward Future Fund product designed with customer-friendliness in mind. In an industry known to be complicated, intimidating, and jargon-filled.
“Intimidating insurance documents are loaded with many jargons to trick one into purchasing insurance policies,” the team said.
By simplifying ways to learn and purchase insurance policies, Forward Future Fund can easily move customers to view existing policies, apply for claims, pay online, connect to a financial advisor, browse through financial articles and free financial literacy courses, allocate funds according to what they need and switch fund allocations.
“We aim to provide transparency and ensure that AIA’s future policyholders feel they are getting the most value for their money, by making insurance policies clear and straightforward, simple, accessible and affordable.”
Team members from The Independent Creatives are Ava Arnejo, Leah Cionco and Natalya Patolot. The winning team for each category received PHP100,000USD 1,704INR 144,460EUR 1,623CNY 12,410.
