We’re covering the Oppo launch of the N3 and the R5 here at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore where close to 1,500 media and bloggers from 15 countries converge to witness the unveiling of Oppo’s new devices. Check below for our live blog coverage.
This is perhaps the biggest media launch Oppo has ever done. We’re waiting for the announcements in a bit.
Oppo opens up the event with a welcome presentation by Jet Lee, Oppo Indonesia CEO/President. He shared Oppo’s firsts — 1st in full DH 1080p screen, first rotating camera, world’s thinnest.
They’ve now shown the Oppo N3 with a rotating camera that automatically rotates on on its own, just by drawing a gesture on the screen. The same auto-rotate can be done with the O-Click remote control and the touch-sensitive back panel.
Sean Deng, Oppo Singapore CEO, presents the Oppo N3.
And because the camera can rotate on its own, you can use the Oppo N3 to create a vertical panorama on its own (motorized camera can do up to 206-degrees). The N3’s 16-megapixel camera can do up to 64MP resolution photos with the lens created by Schneider Optics.
The camera has a sensor size of 1/2.3″ and a pixel size of 1.34 micrometer. It features a Snapdragon 801 2.3GHz (MSM8974AA) in a 5.5-inch IPS LCD full HD 1080p at 403ppi. The built-in Li-Ion battery has a capacity of 3,000mAh. It has 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. It also has a dual-SIM capability.
Oppo has patented its VOOC charger that can charge up to 30% of the battery in just 5 minutes. However the old charger is as big as the one on the Macbook but they’ve reduced the size to just 35mm this time.
Oppo also announced the Oppo R5 as the slimmest smartphone the world at just 4.85mmmm. It is powered by a 64-bit Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 1.5GHz octa-core processor. The AMOLED display is 5.2-inches across with 1080p resolution. Battery capacity is pegged at 2,000mAh.
The metal alloy frame of the Oppo R5 is just 4mm but the camera protrudes a bit making the official form factor to 4.85mm. Oppo made sure that despite the thin frame, it is also the toughest body. Each frame is hand-polished by craftsmen to make the edge finish smoother and almost perfect.

The success of a smartphone greatly depends on its specs to price balance. They should sell this below P15k.
