Artificial Intelligence (AI) is undoubtably making an impact around the world. From automating previously manned processes, to being the default go-to for answering inquiries, it has empowered people and businesses to be more productive than ever before.
Our local PH government has also employed the use of AI to ensure that each citizen receives near-instant replies to all their questions. And the eGovPH AI platform could just get a whole lot more interesting.
The eGovPH AI chatbot can be accessed via the eGovPH application. Here, users can ask questions ranging from government payments to step-by-step guides for securing permits. Admittedly, there were numerous user reports of glitches and errors upon its release last year. Simple prompt guides like the restriction to Philippine context and limitation to government-related scopes of services were overlooked.
It also doesn’t help that the service was recently offline due to technical problems, as well as other funding-related controversies. However, the DICT has released a statement assuring the public that it “is undertaking the necessary enhancements to strengthen system capacity, improve performance, and ensure greater reliability during periods of high demand.”
Only time will tell if these improvements will really come to fruition.

On the other hand, we are more optimistic for what’s to come on the developer side of things. Accessing the website reveals that eGovAI aims to be the foundation of all PH government-related AI usage. Beyond the chatbot, there is also a live Translator tool, an Image Identifier, Document Extractor, Coder/Programmer, Speech Maker, and others.

There are even less technical features such as a Trip Planner that can assemble an itinerary to make local travel easier. A Resume Builder to gift people with more polished documents for job applications. Even an AI Law Assistant that can provide basic information before consulting with a law professional.
We’re sure that there may still be a lot of features to improve, but this is a first step forward. While there is expected skepticism, some developers see this effort as a glimmer of hope for a digitized future – the possibilities are endless.
What do you think?
