Xiaomi Redmi A3 debuts in India: MTK Helio G36, ‘Premium Halo’ design

Listen to article

Xiaomi’s newest budget phone, the Redmi A3, debuts in India with a surprisingly premium design.

The rear features a sizeable circular camera island housing its 8-megapixel dual AI camera system. Xiaomi calls this the “Premium Halo Design,” and there’s even an Olive Green colorway with a faux leather back shell finish reminiscent of the Xiaomi 13 Ultra‘s aesthetic.

Flipping to the front greets a slightly larger 6.7-inch IPS LCD panel. This is an upgrade from the 6.52-inch display on its predecessor, the Redmi A2. While the dew-drop notch housing the 5-megapixel selfie shooter remains, the A3 boasts a smoother 90Hz refresh rate and Gorilla Glass 3 protection for added durability.

Under the hood, the MediaTek Helio G36 remains the same as the Redmi A2. However, the A3 comes with a full version of Android 14, a significant improvement over the toned-down Android 12 Go Edition on its predecessor.
