OpenAI has officially launched Sora, its new AI-powered video creation app, on the App Store for iPhone users. This marks the company’s second iOS app following ChatGPT, but unlike its flagship chatbot, Sora is designed specifically for turning text prompts and images into dynamic videos.

According to OpenAI, Sora can generate anything from cinematic clips to anime shorts, complete with sound, using only a single sentence or image. The app also supports remixes, letting users swap characters, change scenes, or extend stories from existing creations.
Key features include instant video generation with audio, style customization (cinematic, cartoon, surreal, or photorealistic), community-driven sharing and remixing, and the ability to cast yourself or friends into videos.
For now, Sora requires special access despite being listed publicly on the App Store, meaning not all iPhone users can dive in immediately. Still, with OpenAI pushing for creativity and collaboration, the app could quickly gain traction , especially as AI-generated videos trend heavily on social platforms.
Sora arrives just a month after the launch of GPT-5, making it the first major product release since the new AI model’s debut.
