Apple iPhone X di 2021: Lebih baik daripada mid-range Android?

Ketika iPhone X diluncurkan, ia merupakan salah satu ponsel pintar terbaik dari Apple. Ia baru dalam segala aspek dan menawarkan teknologi baru yang tidak dapat dikejar oleh beberapa produsen ponsel pintar lainnya. Saya telah menggunakan iPhone X sebagai ponsel harian saya selama hampir seminggu, dan pengalaman saya sejauh ini ternyata sangat baik. Anda bisa mendapatkan iPhone X baru seharga sekitar PHP28,000, namun jika membelinya bekas, harganya bisa serendah PHP15,000. Desain

The iPhone X memiliki faktor bentuk yang cukup kecil namun dilengkapi dengan layar tampilan penuh, berkat driver-nya yang tersembunyi di bawah layar untuk mencapai panel dari ujung ke ujung. Perangkat ini terasa premium dan kokoh karena bodi stainless steel-nya. Dibandingkan dengan beberapa smartphone mid-range saat ini, sebagian besar terbuat dari bahan polikarbonat yang terkadang terasa rapuh.

Berkat layar full-view-nya, iPhone X tetap dapat memberikan pengalaman konsumsi media yang imersif berkat panel OLED yang menawarkan kontras mendalam dengan warna-warna yang hidup. Layar ini mungkin tidak memiliki tingkat refresh rate 120Hz yang mencolok, namun kualitas OLED semacam ini adalah sesuatu yang tidak dapat Anda temukan pada ponsel mid-range Android.

The iPhone X adalah iPhone kedua terakhir yang dilengkapi teknologi sentuhan 3D dari Apple. Seperti yang saya sampaikan dalam video revisi iPhone 6s saya, saya merindukan fitur ini. Tentu saja, versi iOS yang lebih baru mengintegrasikan fitur serupa bernama "Haptic Touch," namun 3D Touch terasa lebih cepat karena bereaksi terhadap tekanan jari Anda dibandingkan hanya mengetuk tombol tertentu dan menunggu pemicunya.

Selain layar, perangkat ini juga dilengkapi dengan speaker stereo, satu yang mengarah ke depan dan satu lagi yang mengarah ke bawah, sebuah fitur langka pada smartphone Android kelas menengah. Pengaturan ini menghasilkan suara tinggi dan tengah yang lebih seimbang dengan jumlah bass yang cukup.

Kinerja

The iPhone X dilengkapi chipset A11 Bionic dengan GPU tiga inti dari Apple, dipadukan dengan 3GB RAM. Saat pertama kali dirilis, Apple menjanjikan kemampuan komputasi setara desktop, dan performa iPhone X sangat luar biasa serta berkecepatan tinggi. Perangkat ini dapat menangani segala tugas yang diberikan; tentu saja, ini adalah flagship dari Apple. A11 Bionic masih mampu bersaing bahkan mengungguli chipset kelas menengah seperti Snapdragon 750 5G dan MediaTek Helio G90T.

Namun keunggulan sebenarnya ada pada dukungan perangkat lunak. Lihatlah Galaxy S8 Samsung atau bahkan S9 -- perangkat-perangkat ini adalah iPhone saingan langsung X di masa lalu. Selain penurunan harga yang cepat, perangkat-perangkat ini setidaknya tertinggal dua tahun dibandingkan versi Android baru. Di sisi lain, iPhone X masih menerima dukungan pembaruan perangkat lunak selama tiga tahun lagi dan berjalan lancar pada iOS 14 tanpa masalah signifikan.

Saya meninggalkan iPhone 11 Pro Max selama seminggu dan menggunakan iPhone X. Untuk kejutan saya, perangkat ini mampu menangani segala hal, mulai dari pengeditan di Lightroom, pembuatan materi publikasi, pengeditan video, hingga bermain game yang intensif secara grafis. Perangkat ini masih menjadi beast dalam hal performa.

Unit yang saya dapatkan memiliki 64GB penyimpanan, yang mungkin kecil bagi beberapa orang lain, tetapi cukup bagi saya. Saya dapat menyimpan semua alat pengeditan foto dan video dasar saya serta aplikasi lain terkait pekerjaan. Solusi penyimpanan awan seperti Dropbox, iCloud, Google Drive, dan Google Photos juga merupakan pilihan yang sangat masuk akal saat ini, yang dapat membantu menghemat ruang lebih lanjut.

Keamanan

The iPhone X adalah iPhone pertama yang memiliki FaceID sebagai bentuk biometrik, dan hingga saat ini, FaceID tetap menjadi standar emas untuk pengenalan wajah. Perlu diakui, teknologi ini tidak bekerja dengan baik saat pengguna mengenakan masker wajah.

Namun, perangkat ini berfungsi sebagaimana mestinya ketika saya berada di rumah. Ruang lingkupnya tidak seluas iPhone 11 Pro Max milik saya, namun tetap membuka kunci dengan cukup cepat.

Baterai

Ditenagai oleh iPhone X adalah baterai 2,716mAh dengan dukungan pengisian cepat PD 15W. Sayangnya, ini adalah salah satu aspek di mana iPhone X tidak dapat bersaing dengan smartphone mid-range modern Android. Menggunakannya untuk tugas berat menguras baterai dengan cepat, dan saya harus mengisinya setidaknya setiap 4 hingga 5 jam.

Inilah buruknya mengingat iPhone ini masih memiliki kesehatan baterai 91%. Bandingkan dengan Android mid-range modern yang memiliki baterai 5,000mAh dan pengisian daya cepat 60W. Hal ini membuat iPhone X sedikit tertinggal dari para pesaing.

Kamera

Untuk kamera, iPhone X memiliki 12MP kamera utama f/1.8 yang dipasangkan dengan lensa telefoto 12MP f/2.4 di bagian belakang dan kamera selfie 7MP f/2.2.

Dari membandingkan kedua gambar ini, foto dari iPhone X tampak sedikit lebih kontras dengan warna yang lebih gelap dibandingkan gambar yang cerah dan berwarna-warni dari iPhone 11 Pro Max. Di sisi lain, rentang dinamisnya lebih baik pada iPhone 11 Pro Max, namun iPhone tetap tampil cukup baik.

Checking out Huawei Nova 7 5G vs. the iPhone X's photos, images look more vibrant and contrasty on the Nova 7. Simultaneously, there are scenarios where the iPhone X also produces the same, but it gives more true to life colors than the latter.

Moving on to the iPhone X vs. Galaxy A42 5G, image quality comes a little bit pinkish on skin tones and a little pale or oversaturated colors in some scenarios because of the post-processing going on the Galaxy A42 5G. On the other hand, the iPhone X doesn't overdo the images, resulting in more accurate color.

The iPhone X’s camera produces decent images with accurate colors and an ample amount of dynamic range. This device might not have fancy features like Night Mode or an Ultrawide lens, but the iPhone X can still produce quality images. Plus, it can record 4K up to 60fps, which is impressive.

Conclusion

For pricing, again, the iPhone X will set you back PHP 27,999 for a brand new one, but if you don’t mind getting a 2nd hand unit, prices can go from PHP 20,000 to even as low as PHP 15,000, which is a steal. In my experience, the iPhone X can still perform pretty well in 2021, and although there are some occasional lags and slight battery life issues, it is bearable. So, is it better than a mid-range Android device? It's a mixed bag.

Yes, because compared to Android software support, iPhones have the advantage of keeping you updated on the latest iOS version for at least 6 years. Compared to the 2 years, you typically get on a lot of mid-range Android smartphones. You get a decent camera -- no flashy features like night mode or an ultrawide lens, but it can still give you quality images. And, of course, a performance that is up to par by today’s standards.

But at the same time, no, because it may not be as future-proof as mid-range devices with 5G connectivity and a better battery capacity with much faster-charging speeds. But at the end of the day, the decision is yours to make.

Y’all are justifying that iPhone devices are more worth buying because it gets 5-6 years of feature update cycles? It doesn’t work that way, hun. Android does security updates through the play store. Samsung even had updated the old Galaxy S7 last December 2020.

Even with the latest iOS software updates, older android versions are still ahead in the game. The Galaxy S8/S9 series doesn’t need the latest android OS feature update (Android 11) just to compete with your iPhone X. These are some of the features “old” Galaxy devices have that the even latest iPhone devices doesn’t support: Desktop mode (DeX support), Screensharing through any TVs that supports Miracast (really odd iPhones still just support their propriety AirPlay feature only which sucks big time), headphone jack, MicroSD support, always on display, and many others. You can even get a port of the GCam to make shitty cameras of today’s midrange android phones compete with the flagship devices. Editing app? Adobe lightroom in android still supports Android 5 (Lollipop). “Oh wow the iPhone has Airdrop” Oh yeah, about that, android already has that feature called nearby share. Already installed in all android phones with Android 6 and above.

Software feature updates already came to the point where updates are really minor. Heck are are ton of APKs that can be installed to compensate for the “new features”. Aesthetic purposes? Get a home launcher. Wanted a first party customization app? Samsung’s Goodlock is available. There are a lot more than what you’ve pointed out with android’s flaws.

Or get a custom rom. S6 Edge Plus on XDA supports Android 10. Still fast and can compete with the iPhone counterpart. The best part? You get those flagship Galaxy devices, which you’ve told, for less. S6 Edge Plus for 4-5k, S7 Edge for 5K, S8 Series for 8-10k, S9 series for 10-12k, or get the S10 5G for 17-20k.

If you’re just a user who uses smartphones traditionally, then yes, an iPhone is suitable for you. However, you don’t compare android devices just like that. Every phone is unique and there are power users who use “Smartphones” differently.

it seriously depends on the midrange phone in question.

Against the Nova 7 SE or Nova 7, i’d take the Nova phones hands down. Both have got 5g, very capable cameras with the latter capable of 4k front facing video, huge storage, huge batteries and fast charges af.

To sum it up, it depends. If going against a realme, oppo or vivo, the iPhone takes home the bacon.

oh and then you have the Mi10 which is sub 25k, making it a no brainer pick.

I’m loving it!!! Performance-wise, photo shot-wise and endurance-wise, Since December 2017 as daily driver, it never fails me all the things I need to do, dependable to communicate to the world. Although I’m tickling right now my S21 Ultra, my iPhoneX is here to stay to perform some mobile tasks I need!
