NTC says PH is ready for digital TV migration

Listen to article

The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) is reportedly holding public consultations and hearings for planning the migration from analog to digital TV here in the Philippines.

NTC Director Edgardo Cabarios mentioned that it could take at least 3 years for this to fully take off, but he is certain that the broadcast networks are ready for this shift since it is already accepted by the industry as reported by CNN Philippines.

Of course, enjoying sharper video and clearer audio comes with a higher asking price than the analog TV that most Filipinos now use. This is due to the need of an additional set-up box or digital to analog converter until TV receivers already have their own digital tuners. In light of this, the source states that the NTC will still consider the capability of households to buy these extra accessories.

Digital TV isn’t only limited to local networks. Just recently, we featured smartphones  with built-in DTV available in PH so users could still enjoy good picture quality while watching their TV shows on the go.

Will you be willing to adapt and spend extra cash to get digital TV on your household? Let us know in the comments section below.

We should make the shift as early as possible, and make/sell set-up boxes that are cheap

No! Didn’t know that the moderator here doesn’t accept negative side of current DTV implementation.

The NTC is still living in 2006-2009 era. It’s 2016 now, NTC should not only regulate Digital TV but also think of HD TV.

And I don’t even like buying those digital tv set-top boxes. Am expecting the LED TVs being sold locally to already include those DTV Tuners built-in (especially ISDB-T). But then, not all of them are. Still very few selections from known TV brands. And why would I even need to use 2 remotes just to watch TV? Or to plug-in 2 devices to the power outlets just to watch TV. Quite silly….

For occasional TV viewing (specially news), am still using OTA analog channels.

Me too! I’m still waiting for top brands to built-in digital decoder chips on their TV sets. Sony have several TV sets but it is not ISDB-T. Why don’t sell TV sets from Japan as the digital TV standards?

What a silly question. As if you’re asking this in the 60’s with “are you willing to adopt and replace your TV sets with color”? I know many people are still using analog TV sets, pero kung nakabili sila ng TV, I’m sure may pambili din sila ng digiboxes. And TV manufacturers will definitely make digital-ready sets, too.

Yes. NTC should report to the public the status of DTV signal availability in every region of all TV networks.

Yes of course. I am currently using the RCA digital box. Well worth the buy. Linaw talaga lahat ng channels. :) The indoor antenna provided is more than capable, di na kailangan ng mahabang tubo para sa antenna. hahahaha
