Here’s a good look at the Nothing Phone 2

Listen to article

The highly anticipated Nothing Phone 2 is almost here, with an online launch event scheduled for July 11.

However, eagle-eyed tech enthusiasts can already get a sneak peek, thanks to the reliable tipster evleaks, who has provided an early full 360-degree view of the Nothing Phone 2 ahead of its official release.

At first glance, one might tell that there’s literally ‘nothing new’ in the Phone 2 except the Glyph Interface that gets a slight redesign.

Apparently, it is now divided into more segments to provide more utility other than just blipping LEDs for notifications and ringtones.

In an exclusive preview of MKBHD’s Dope Tech episode, he says that the main improvement in Phone 2’s design is the addition of more addressable LED zones inside of each strip.

The Phone 1 previously had 12 LED lighting zones, and its successor has now 33 LED lighting zones across the rear, with a strip up top getting 16 to itself—allowing for more precise and granular progress indicators.

The said 16-LED strip can now show as volume indicator or even a timer. It will also feature Essential Notifications that make use of the Glyph Interface and plans to make it addressable by third parties.

The lower ‘i’ strip remains a charging indicator.

In addition, there will be a new Glyph Composer app that allows users to mix their own ringtones using Nothing byte sounds. This works similarly to the Nokia ringtone composer we had back in the day.

Based on the expected specifications so far, the Nothing Phone 2 will have the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, a 6.7-inch display, and a 4,700mAh battery. The launch is scheduled on July 11, 11pm Philippine standard time.
