Cider는 컬럼비아 대학교 컴퓨터 과학부에서 개발하고 설계했으며, 기본적으로 “다른 모바일 생태계에 맞춤 제작된 애플리케이션을 iOS 또는 Android로 개발한 애플리케이션을 동일한 스마트폰이나 태블릿에서 함께 실행할 수 있는 운영체제 호환성 아키텍처”입니다. 이는 Android 앱을 iOS 기기에서 실행할 수 있음을 의미합니다. Cider의 목표는 다양한 앱과의 독점성 장벽을 허물고, 어떤 운영체제를 사용하든 모두가 접근할 수 있도록 하는 것입니다.
