Corning announces Gorilla Glass Victus

Listen to article

Corning Incorporated has announced its latest Gorilla Glass Victus, which significantly improves drop and scratch performance.

Based on their lab tests, the Gorilla Glass Victus was able to survive drops from up to 2 meters onto hard, rough surfaces. Meanwhile, its previous flagship Corning Gorilla Glass 6 was only able to survive 1.6 meters. It also showed a 2x improvement in scratch resistance compared to the Corning Gorilla Glass 6.

“Dropped phones can result in broken phones, but as we developed better glasses, phones survived more drops but also showed more visible scratches, which can impact the usability of devices,” John Bayne, Senior VP and GM of Mobile Consumer Electronics said. “Instead of our historic approach of asking our technologists to focus on a single goal – making the glass better for either drop or scratch – we asked them to focus on improving both drop and scratch, and they delivered with Gorilla Glass Victus.”

Samsung will be the first company to adopt the Gorilla Glass Victus.
