Sensationalist pinoys nga naman. A windows phone license costs $8-10 per handset.

“The Php29,990 retail price is a bit on the high end considering their dual-core Optimus 2x went out at only Php27,990.”

Of course… it comes with Windows. It’s an added cost.

This is an overpriced smartphone that has a ridiculously ugly design with a not so good OS. What makes them think that anyone would buy this thing? I mean, come on! Even on a 20k pricetag, this thing is still not worth it.

If Windows 7 phones are priced this way…

Nokia should start digging its own graveyard.

This phone should be priced at P12,000 in order to sell.

That’s not true. LG already have sales figures for this particular unit, albeit below expectations. The specs alone warrants at least 20k (something akin to a Nexus S).

I don’t like the appearance of this phone.. No WOW factor.

I’m with spectre. I’d go for Mozart instead of this.

yup… I’ll go for SGS2 for that price… paying for the OS makes it more expensive…

If that is so true (the OS making it more expensive), why is the Desire S running on Android more expensive than Mozart running on WP7 whereas the specs do not deviate that much?

DE
Denz D. Naitawei · 15 years ago

Specs don’t deviate that much… uh let’s see now…

Desire S:
HTC Sense UI
1.1 GB ROM
768 MB RAM
HSDPA 14.4 Mbps
HSUPA 5.76 Mbps
DLNA
Wi-Fi hotspot
Adreno 205 GPU
Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon
Li-Ion 1450 mAh
expandable memory
5MP camera

Mozart:
512 MB ROM
576 MB RAM
8gb internal memory (non-expandable but can be tweaked internally)
HSDPA 7.2 Mbps
HSUPA 2 Mbps
Adreno 200 GPU
Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon
Li-Ion 1300 mAh

plus prices are usually adjusted based on supply and demand?

I don’t know…

DE
Denz D. Naitawei · 15 years ago

forgot to add 8mp on mozart

FL
Fleeb · 15 years ago

Okay I’ll be specific. Licensing cost for per WP7 phone is USD15, so they say (if this is around USD100 then my point is moot and you are right). That’s PHP650 at this point.

DE
Denz D. Naitawei · 15 years ago

But I presume there would be a minimum number of phones that one has to manufacture with that licensing fee price? And if there’s no demand for that phone and you get lots of surplus in your supply, in which case you can’t really lower down the price of the phone along the way, otherwise you’re losing profit and your not selling pa. I don’t know.

FL
Fleeb · 15 years ago

Okay I understand what you are trying to say and where you are coming from. You are right. The price might also be influenced by that factor.

Here is where I am coming from: a hypothetical scenario suggests that there is no licensing costs to WP7 OS. So this particular LG unit will now be sold for 28990 instead of 29990. Still expensive I know. However, this time we cannot assume that the price is because the OS is expensive. But, we can assume that it is influenced by the factors you stated.

DE
Denz D. Naitawei · 15 years ago

Also think of it in a macro level of production. Windows Phone has a minimum set of requirements that a manufacture must comply with and design with, other than the licensing issues. It may also be a factor.

too expensive for such an ugly-looking phone. still prefer HTC’s mozart over this.
