Nokia E6 First Impressions

Nokia E6 First Impressions

So we also got the chance to check out the Nokia E6 yesterday, the successor of the Nokia E72 but now comes with the more improved Symbian Anna. The least I can say is that it’s an impressive combo.

The Nokia E6 inherits the same form factor as the popular E71 and E72 but this time, it also comes with a touch screen which makes some aspects of navigation easier and more intuitive.

The specs aren’t that much except for a few improvements over the E72 like a bigger megapixel camera, internal storage, HD video recording and graphics hardware accelerator. At first look, the unit looks like one of those BB phones, only slimmer with a more rounder corners and a bit heavier due to the metallic construction.

Nokia E6 specs:
2.46″ touch display @ 640×480 pixels
8GB internal storage
up to 32GB microSD
HSDPA 10.2Mbps, HSUPA 2.0Mbps
WiFi 802.11 b/g/n
Bluetooth 3.0 w/ A2DP
USB On-the-go support
8MP fixed-focus w/ dual-LED flash
[email protected] video recording
600MHz ARM 11 processor
2D/3D Graphics HW Accelerator with OpenVG1.1 and OpenGL ES 2.0
FM Radio tuner
Li-Ion 1500 mAh

The most interesting feature is the new and improved Symbian Anna. The OS is spiffy, very responsive and cleaned up compared to the previous Symbian variants. Even the UI is more intuitive with widgets you can customize along 3 home screens.

The Nokia E6 could be out before the end of the 3rd quarter (definitely not this June) and will have a retail price int he vicinity of the E72 SRP.

What’s with the delay? i thought nokia is trying to keep the launch and release date close? by the time they release the e6 the BB bold touch 9900 will be out…and that won’t be good for nokia…

We’re in the Philippines. The Nokia E6 will sell because it is a Nokia. There’s still a good deal of brand loyalty in the country (justified or otherwise). The Blackberries probably fare better in some aspects but the aesthetics and the embedded features of the E6 are just to tempting to resist. I still do think that the limited CPU (600Mhz) and the non-auto focus camera are the major flaws of the phone. Still, I expect it to be a bestseller much like the E71 and the E72.

well i think that’s about to change…no doubt that nokia would still be strong on the low end market…but on the upper and mid range? i don’t think so…there are a lot of better options out there(android, ios& bb)…and filipinos are far more well informed now than they were before…

  3. this is still using Symbian. i thought Nokia will ditch away Symbian in exchange for WinMo.

  4. OT:Sir Yuga, ano ba market ng E6?Looking at the specs e parang kayang kaya gawin ito ng other smartphones/Android phones like the Galaxy Ace or the LG Optimus (correct me if Im wrong ha :D)

Topic: hmm, the HD recording capability is interesting, as well as the touchscreen. The camera is fixed focus? oh ooh,it could have been better if it has autofocus :)

In terms of email and other business related stuffs (which the E6 is mainly intended for), Symbian can do what android can do. One thing I hate about android phones and the iPhone is its battery life. It could barely last a day under heavy usage and from my experience as well as from my colleagues, battery life is crucial. I’m confident the E6 would last three, even four days under heavy to moderate usage. My E72 lasts three days sometimes five and it gets the job done.

Here’s my opinion to why your E72’s battery lasts longer than those of iPhones and droids: There are so many stuff you can do with them whereas there’s almost only the basic stuff that you do in your E72. There! I said it. :)

  5. Nokia E6 looks nice for woman. I will get one for my girl friend :)

  6. Air21 says:

for sure the price will be 25k+

  7. adam says:

If the price will be at 25K I’d rather get a Samsung galaxy S or an optimus black.

    Best touchscreen qwerty combo
I recently bought the NOKIA E6 and have to say that its all I wanted from a combination touchscreen and qwerty. The Symbian Anna OS is very responsive and precise, the browser is superb and easy to input URL address, save bookmarks and scroll between open pages
