Oppo and Oneplus hanging on in the UK

Listen to article

Chinese smartphone manufacturers Oppo and OnePlus have denied rumors that they are planning to cease sales in the UK, France, and the Netherlands, after leaving the German market.
(A patent lawsuit filed by networking services provider Nokia had banned both OnePlus and Oppo phones in Germany in August 2022.)

The companies, which are both subsidiaries of BBK Electronics Corporation, have assured their customers that they are committed to the European and UK markets and will continue to operate in the region.

In response to rumors that they were leaving Europe, OnePlus said that it will continue to invest in Europe, and Oppo noted that it had several new products in the pipeline for the rest of the year. The rumors emerged amid a challenging period for the global smartphone industry, which saw a decline in shipments of 18.3% year-on-year in Q4 2022, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC).

If Oppo and OnePlus were to depart from the European market, it would undoubtedly come as a major disappointment for their customers, and at the same time, further bolster Apple and Samsung’s stranglehold over the region.
