realme 7i Hands-On

realme Philippines has released yet another smartphone and member of the 7 series that packs a quad-rear camera setup,  90hz refresh rate, and a huge 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging, the . Check out our initial thoughts below.

One of the first things we noticed about the realme 7i is its simple yet modern design. Even though the back panel is made of polycarbonate, it still looks and feels premium. Our unit features the Polar Blue colorway, but an Aurora Green option is also available.

Found on the left side is the triple card tray for the dual-nano SIM cards and microSD card.

On the left are the sleep/wake button and volume rockers.

Down at the bottom are the headphone jack, primary microphone, USB Type-C port, and the loudspeaker.

At the back, we have a gradient two-toned finish, which looks pretty cool. There’s also the realme branding, the quad-camera setup, and a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Upfront, we have a 6.55-inch HD+ IPS display with a resolution of (1600 x 720) with a 90Hz refresh rate. We can also see the hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera on the upper left. Corning Gorilla Glass protects the screen, but realme didn’t specify the version.

Surprisingly, even though it is just an IPS display, realme managed to make the colors on this display really punchy and vibrant. The blacks, however, aren’t that deep as compared to AMOLED, but it’s not a big downer. For the loudspeaker, the realme 7i can easily fill up a room. It’s crisp, but like most smartphones, it lacks bass. It also sounds tinny when you set the volume at maximum. Still, it’s good enough for casual listening or for hands-free voice calls.

Powering the realme 7i is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 chipset with Adreno 610 GPU, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. Everything runs smoothly— from doing simple day-to-day tasks up to playing graphically intensive games like Asphalt.

For the battery, it is equipped with a large 5,000mAh with support for 18W Quick Charge.

Running the software department is the realme UI based on Android 10, which I think is pretty clean as compared to other Android smartphone skins.

For cameras, the realme 7i packs quite a handful of lenses. It has a quad rear camera consisting of a 64MP main, 8MP ultra-wide, 2MP portrait, and 2MP macro lens. Meanwhile, for selfies, we have a 16MP Sony IMX471 sensor. Check out these sample shots below:

With the realme 7i, we get a pretty smooth display, a huge battery with fast charging, and a pretty decent chipset that can handle most tasks. The local price is yet to be announced, but we’ll know more in a couple of days, so stay tuned.
