Samsung has finally announced their new flagship smartphone for the year — the Samsung Galaxy S7. The Galaxy S7 follows the same design signature as its predecessor but Samsung added essential improvements we found wanting from the Galaxy S6.
Major improvements on the Galaxy S7 is the expandable storage via a hybrid dual-SIM tray that’s compatible with a microSD card, water and dust resistance, faster wireless charging and bigger battery capacity.
Samsung Galaxy S7 specs:
5.1-inch Super AMOLED quad-HD display @ 2560 x 1440
Gorilla Glass 4
Samsung Exynos 8890 64-bit octa-core CPU
4GB RAM
32GB, 64GB internal memory
Up to 200GB via micro SD
Dual SIM, dual LTE hybrid (2nd SIM tray is for microSD)
WiFi 802.11ac
Bluetooth 4.1
NFC
12MP Dual Pixel rear camera dual-tone, dual LED, f/1.7
5-megapixel front-facing camera, f/1.7
Fast Wireless Charging
Fingerprint Scanner
Heart-Rate Sensor
IP68 Rating
3,000mAh Li-Ion non-removable battery
Android 6.0 Marshmallow with TouchWiz
Gold, Silver, White and Black
Do note that the IR Blaster has been removed, a feature that has always been a standard with the Galaxy S series.
The rear camera has also been improved with a 12-megapixel dual-pixel sensor that’s similar to the technology used in the Canon 70D. Focus time is as fast as 0.02 seconds and maximum aperture is set at f/1.7 with optical image stabilization. That means better low-light performance.
The Samsung Galaxy S7 is set to be released in the Philippines on March 19. It’s available in black and gold with a silver special edition (only the black and gold in 32GB will likely be released in the Philippines).
