Apple’s iPhone 14 just came out and its new ‘Dynamic Island’ feature—which makes the pill-looking notch more useful—is already getting an Android knockoff, at least by community developers.

Vaibhav Jain via a Twitter thread shared a video from Weibo showing the Dynamic Island-like feature working smoothly on a Xiaomi device running MIUI. See it for yourself below:

As seen on the video, the ‘pill’ when playing music expands to an interactive player that shows the song title, artist name, and the album cover along with the playback controls.
The said feature comes from a Mi Theme called Grumpy UI (in Chinese), and its developer told Jain that the theme update is still under review process. Once Xiaomi approves it, it will go live on the theme store.
However, it seems to be only available on the Chinese ROM of MIUI.
It’s unknown yet if the theme also includes answering phone calls or any other features that Apple’s Dynamic Island does.

Marques Brownlee also replied to the thread, saying “That was fast. (disappointed that it doesn’t actually hug the camera cutout).”

Considering that Apple started the notch trend in the tech industry, there is that possibility of Android OEMs on adapting their own versions of Apple’s Dynamic Island.
