Apple might make the Dynamic Island much smaller

Listen to article

Once a signifying trait (and let’s not lie, a status symbol) of Apple’s pro-grade smartphones, the Dynamic Island has made its way to not only the brand’s regular lineup – but also other brands as well. Apple has utilized that pill shape well, inputting all sorts of functionality.

That’s why it comes as a surprise that the tech giant has been rumored to push for a smaller island in its next iPhone Pro iteration.

Sources have claimed that manufacturers have begun producing screen protectors for the upcoming Apple iPhone 18 Pro/Max models. There is enough confidence that the design will feature a Dynamic Island reduced in size by about 35%.

Based on the photo, it appears that the decrease is to its width. The reasoning is allegedly due to the development of technology – more tech can be placed under the display now, such as FaceID, instead of requiring real estate in the dark space.

As of now, reactions are mixed. Some have grown accustomed to the pill’s shape/size and its features, while others are just happy to get more screen real estate back. There is also floating sentiments of whether or not the under-display features will work as well as the ones in the Island.

This design is not yet verified. While Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has pointed towards this being the truth, other reputable leakers such as Digital Chat Station have hypothesized that the iPhone Pro design may remain largely unchanged.
