Xiaomi Mi 5 announced: Snapdragon 820, up to 128GB Flash

Xiaomi has announced their new flagship and it packs the best design materials and internals you can find today.

The Xiaomi Mi 5 sports a 5.15-inch full HD display. It’s powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with either 3GB of 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM. Storage-wise, you can opt for up to 128GB of onboard flash storage. According to Xiaomi, it can reach a benchmark score of 142,084 on Antutu v6.0.4.

It’s 16-megapixel rear camera has a 4-axis optical image stabilization but with no camera bump. As mentioned during the launch, the design of the Mi 5 is inherited from the Mi Note flagship from last year with a 3D-curved edge glass or ceramic back (microcrystalline nano-ceramic zirconia) and metallic frame.

Pricing depends on the configuration you’re getting:
3GB and 32GB — RMB 1999 or around Php14,500
3GB and 64GB — RMB 2299 or around Php16,800
4GB and 128GB — RMB 2699 or around Php19,700

The highest configuration with 4GB RAM, 128GB of storage and a 3D ceramic back cover is labeled as the Mi 5 Pro.

Availability will start in China by March 1 while international availability is yet to be announced.

Well yes, the price is higher than previous phones. But let’s not forget that they’re using the absolute latest tech now. And that this and its competitors were released practically together. And they all share a lot of the same specs.

To be able to sell this for two-thirds the price of the competition says a lot.
