Xiaomi Mi 5 Extreme version has overclocked CPU, GPU, and RAM

Listen to article

We previously reviewed the Xiaomi Mi 5 and while we were already impressed with its performance, a new variant has become available at Chinese online retail store Gome. Called the Extreme version, it sports overclocked internals which should provide more computing muscle.

In terms of internals, the Extreme version Mi 5 boasts an overclocked CPU from 1.8GHz to 2.15GHz that saw a 19% increase, a 22% bump on its Adreno 530 GPU now running at 624MHz from 510MHz, while its 3GB LPDDR4 RAM is now boosted from 1333MHz to 1866MHz.

As stated by the source, these updated specs will take its toll on its 3000mAh battery which didn’t get any bigger.

The online retailer is selling this beefed up Mi 5 for CNY1999 (approx. Php14K) and is available in white, gold, and purple — with the black variant coming at a slightly higher asking price.

@pokeland legends, why would i read xda and other android forums? i even get nosebleeds from reading some technical info here. how much damage would my brain get if i read but not able to understand some info?

my statements whether right or wrong are my personal opinions.

personally, i don’t really believe that the ‘internals’ were overclocked (cpu, ram). the cpu could be a better, faster version… the ram could be a faster memory module… just like desktop pc counterparts where cpu, gpu, ram, hdd/ssd have better, non-overclocked versions out of the box…
i could be wrong though… if ‘internals’ can be overclocked, it would be nice to know how cellphone companies do it and how temperatures are managed/controlled via ultra small heatpipes (?), radiator cellphone casing (?), fanless design (?)

Its possible to overclock as long as developers knows the kernel codes. Had a Samsung Galaxy Y gingerbread days and we had a 1.0ghz kernel overclock before so its 2016 and of course it is possible still nowadays. Read in xda and other android forums or google to know more valid info rather than presumptions. ????
