The new iteration of the Axon line will have a conventional selfie lens housed in a punch-hole notch, unlike its predecessor, the Axon 40 Ultra, which had an under-display camera technology.

However, ZTE is introducing a new feature to the Axon 50 Ultra—satellite connectivity, which has been making a buzz in the industry.

The Axon 50 Ultra will be initially released in China and will be the first secure 5G smartphone with satcom support—allowing users to send messages and location information even when the device struggles to find signal coverage on the ground, thanks to BeiDou satellite communication messages.

Huawei Mate 50 series was the first to introduce satellite connectivity in smartphones back in September last year, followed by Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro models.

Samsung was rumored to also introduce satellite connectivity to their devices, but the company decided to wait for the technology to mature.

Going back to the Axon 50 Ultra, it is expected to equip the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC and a curved display.

It is also said to pack a 5500 mAh battery combined with 135W fast charging.

We should know more details about the new ZTE smartphone at launch on April 12 at 1:30pm (China local time). Stay tuned for updates.
