AOL Instant Messenger (AOL), one of the widely used instant messaging back in the 1990’s, will be shutting down for good in December.

Due to the evolution of technology and how people communicate with each other nowadays, the once famous instant messaging client will be shutting down soon. In a Tumblr post from AIM, Michael Albers, Vice President of Communications Product at Oath, stated that the said instant messaging will be shutting down for good. He also stated that they will be focusing more on producing products and experiences for users in the future.
Aside from AIM, many famous messaging clients have already shut down like MSN Messenger and Yahoo Messenger. Users can still enjoy the messaging services of AIM until December 15, 2017 before it completely shut-downs.

I have lotsa fond memories using this IM service whilst growing up. My only consolation is I get to keep my @aim.com email address for years to come.
