Apple facing lawsuit with alleged use of harmful chemicals

Listen to article

Apple is facing a lawsuit alleging that their watch bands are made with harmful chemicals. Specifically, Apple Watch’s Sport, Ocean, and Nike bands were targeted for this matter.

This includes Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), known as “forever chemicals”. The chemicals are linked to a number of health problems, notorious for being hard to break down in the environment.

The lawsuit claims that Apple knowingly uses PFAS in their watch straps to put consumers at risk. PFAS has been linked to cancer, thyroid problems, and immune system deficiencies.

The issue raises concerns about how PFAS affects users’ health and the general environment. Apple reached out to Android Authority with an official statement on the matter, refuting the allegations.

“Apple Watch bands are safe for users to wear. In addition to our own testing, we also work with independent laboratories to conduct rigorous testing. This includes analysis of the materials used in our products, including Apple Watch bands.”

This is still a developing story, so we’ll update readers should it unfold further.
