ERC orders MERALCO Php13.9 billion refund to customers

The Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) has just directed the Manila Electric Company (MERALCO) to refund a total of Php13,885,845,931 to cutomers. This is equivalent to an average refund of Php0.1528/kWh to its customers.

The refund will be made in the next 24 months or until the amount is fully refunded.

“The Commission approved MERALCO’s prayer for the issuance of a provisional authority in order to allow their customers to immediately enjoy the benefits of the proposed refund and provide immediate rate relief especially during this time of pandemic,” said ERC Chairperson and CEO Agnes VST Devanadera.

Meralco customers should see the refunds being reflected in their next billing statements.

For residential customers, the refund is about Php0.2768 per kWh. If you’re consuming about 1,000kWh per month, the refund would be more or less Php276.8.
