Google Chromecast line discontinuing

The Google Chromecast line is going to be discontinued. In a recent post 25, Google said that they’re ending production for the device after over a decade.

However, the Chromecast devices will still be available while supplies last. Google said that they’re moving on to push software and security updates to their newer devices.

The most recent update to the Chromecast with Google TV was released two years ago. With that, Google notes how “technology has evolved dramatically” since the Chromecast launched in 2013.

The company said that they’re taking the next step towards giving value to streaming TV devices. Google said they’re working on adding capabilities to Smart TVs built on top of Chromecast technology.

In line with this announcement, Google is slated to offer the new Google TV Streamer. This will be priced at USD 99.99 (~PHP 5.8K) and will launch on September 24, 2024.

The device is said to be 22% faster in comparison to the Chromecast, and will have Thread and Matter integration. Are you guys excited about the upgrade to the Chromecast?
