Google Fiber is back in business

Google Fiber Logo
announced last year that it will finally be coming back with a 5 gigabit per second offering after years of stagnation. As you see, the company has already layed down the groundwork for the service by laying down miles of optic cable to complete with local ISP’s until it fell quiet.

As a new service, it is only understandable why Fiber only has a limited rollout area with the company announcing that its 5 Gig service will be available in “Kansas City, West Des Moines, and all our Utah cities,” with an eventual rollout to 5 more states, however current plans show that they will not do a wider rollout.

Should you live in the areas stated above, Google Fiber’s 5Gbps service costs $125PHP 7,336INR 10,594EUR 119CNY 910 a month which includes a professionally installed 10 Gig fiber modem and “a Wi-Fi 6 router and two mesh extenders.” This also allows 5Gbps download and upload speeds.

Google Fiber has already tested the use of 10 gig modem with an 8Gbps plan on the horizon very soon which should release by this year with pricing of up to $150PHP 8,803INR 12,712EUR 143CNY 1,092 a month. The company has also publicly tested 20Gbps and that the journey to 100Gbps of download and upload is something we can see sooner rather than later.

Chances of this service coming out locally is a long shot, but hopefully we can see these speeds in our shores one day.
