Table of Contents
Although the two devices feature the same clamshell design, their screens differ in specs. The P50 Pocket has a larger screen than the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G, but the 0.2-inch difference won’t be that noticeable. The former has a high-frequency PWM dimming for viewing experience in the dark and a responsive 300Hz touch sampling rate. The latter, on the other hand, has Gorilla Victus for protection.
Both can provide rich colors and deep blacks thanks to their OLED and AMOLED panels, and a smooth viewing experience with their 120Hz refresh rate.
As for the cover screen, the Galaxy Flip3 5G has a larger screen, while the P50 Pocket’s is smaller but has a higher PPI count. The latter also has a 120Hz touch sampling rate.
The two devices are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 with an octa-core CPU clocked at a maximum of 2.84GHz, and an Adreno 660 GPU. This means we can expect the same level of performance from both smartphones.
The P50 Pocket Standard Edition has 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, while the Premium Edition has 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. The Galaxy Z Flip3 5G, on the other hand, is available in 8GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB configurations. It’s also worth noting that the P50 Pocket supports NM cards in a hybrid setup in case you really want to expand the storage.
If you want the biggest RAM and storage possible, the P50 Pocket has you covered. But if you want to go lower, the base Galaxy Z Flip3 5G is the one to get.
The P50 Pocket seems to dominate this area by sporting three cameras. It has two hi-res cameras consisting of a 40MP True-Chroma and 32MP Ultra Spectrum which work in tandem to produce sharper and more color-accurate colors. The third camera is an ultra-wide camera for capturing landscapes and group shots.
For the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G, it has a 12MP Dual Pixel main and a 12MP ultra-wide.
For selfies, the P50 Pocket has a 10.7MP shooter, while the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G has 10MP.
The P50 Pocket has dual-SIM, while the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G has nano-SIM with e-SIM support. Both have WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, USB-C, side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and GPS. The part where things get interesting is that the latter has 5G while the former is stuck with 4G. So, if 5G is important to you, better go for the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G.
As for other features, the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G has more to offer with its stereo speakers and IPX8 water resistance, which the P50 Pocket doesn’t have.
The P50 Pocket wins in terms of battery capacity at 4,000mAh with a faster charging rate at 40W and 5W reverse wired charging. The Galaxy Flip3 5G, on the other hand, only has 3,300mAh with 15W fast charging but has support for 10W wireless charging and 4.5W reverse wireless charging.
Which one to get?
If budget is an issue, then the Galaxy Z Flip3 5G best option of the two, given that there’s a PHP 17,009USD 290INR 24,571EUR 276CNY 2,111 gap between the prices of their base model. Even if you get the 8GB + 256GB model, it’s still PHP 13,009USD 222INR 18,793EUR 211CNY 1,614 cheaper than the standard P50 Pocket. It’s also the best option if you want 5G, stereo speakers, and water resistance.
But let’s not dismiss the P50 Pocket right away, though, as this one has an impressive camera system, has more tech features for its screens, bigger RAM and storage options, and a larger battery. But that is if you have the budget.
