Huawei chairman Xu Zhijun announced plans to roll out HarmonyOS globally during the Analyst Summit 2024.

He noted that the company believes they can work towards making HarmonyOS the world’s third option for mobile operating systems. Despite US sanctions, the chairman noted they’ll work their way up after taking care of business on home soil.
Huawei plans to work closely with app developers and provide support, tools, and encouragement to build their app ecosystem. The company aims to focus on the Chinese market.
Their data noted that 99% of users spend most of their time on over 5,000 apps in particular. The tech giant intends to work on these with HarmonyOS NEXT integrations, already supporting 4,000 of these.
Porting their operating system to the rest of the world will take some time, as with bringing in more developers on board. However, Huawei’s chairman believes in their software supporting up to a million apps in the near future.
As of now, HarmonyOS is gaining traction in China relatively quickly. Additionally, their OS is en route to becoming the second most popular mobile system in China, second only to iOS.
