Huawei presents the first commercially available 5G modem

Listen to article

Huawei has just announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona the commercial availability of its first 5G modem for smartphones and other devices.

It’s called the Balong 5G01, and the company touts it to be compliant with the new 5G standards set by 3GPP. Huawei’s new 5G chip offers up to 2.3Gbps speed, a far cry from the 20Gbps standard set by the mobile council.

No pricing has been mentioned for the chip but this goes to show how serious Huawei is with pushing the new network technology forward, as the company is also known for providing telecommunications equipment provider across various countries.
