The HUAWEI nova Y74 gets a silent launch

Listen to article

Without even so much as an early announcement, HUAWEI has just launched the nova Y74. This comes almost exactly a year after the nova Y73 was unveiled. Here’s what we know about the brand’s latest device.

This new entry-level 4G device focuses heavily on screen real estate and endurance.

Up front, the HUAWEI nova Y74 features a 6.67-inch LCD screen with a smooth 90Hz refresh rate, an HD+ resolution, and a peak brightness that reaches up to 850 nits for easy outdoor viewing. While HUAWEI has officially kept the exact chipset under wraps for this global release, internet sources strongly suggest it runs on a Kirin 800-series processor.

The standout feature of the phone is its massive 6,620mAh battery, which supports 40W wired fast charging. According to Huawei’s internal testing, this massive power cell can keep the phone running for up to 25 hours of continuous online video playback on a single charge.

For optics, the back of the phone houses a 50-megapixel primary camera nested inside a distinct square camera module, while an 8-megapixel front-facing shooter handles selfies and video calls. On the software side, the device runs EMUI 12 and retains Huawei’s physical X Button on the side, giving users a customizable, one-tap physical shortcut to jump straight into their favorite apps or system functions.

Rounding out the technical specifications, the phone includes a side-mounted fingerprint scanner built into the power button, Bluetooth 5.1, Wi-Fi, NFC, GPS, dual-SIM 4G connectivity, and a USB Type-C port.

The HUAWEI nova Y74 is launching in two color choices, Black and Blue, though official pricing and specific regional release dates have not yet been disclosed by the company.
