The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has just now declared a red alert status on the Luzon Grid due to the deficiency in power generation, according to the Department of Energy (DOE).
The Philippine Star reports that the NGCP will be placing the grid under red alert between 3PM to 4PM and 7PM to 10PM, while being under yellow alert from 5PM to 6PM and 11PM.
A red alert indicates insufficient power supply which would lead to power interruptions. A yellow alert is declared for when reserves fall below ideal levels.
Due to two lines being tripped, Meralco had conducted automatic load dropping or ALD at 1:53PM, but later on, went on to announce that power had been fully restored at 2:11PM. An ALD is a safety procedure wherein power is cut off in certain areas due to low power supply.
The ALD conducted had affected around 1.6 million customers in the regions of Caloocan, Valenzuela, Malabon, Manila, Makati, Muntinlupa, Las Piñas, Metro Manila, and parts of Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, Batangas and Cavite.
