Micron Technology is shutting down its consumer RAM business in 2026.

Micron confirmed that it will fully exit the retail DRAM and SSD market under the Crucial brand by February 2026. This is part of a strategic shift toward supplying high-bandwidth memory and storage for AI and data-center customers.
This marks the end of the brand’s twenty-nine (29) years of Crucial-branded memory and storage products for PC builders and DIY enthusiasts.
“The AI-driven growth in the data center has led to a surge in demand for memory and storage,” said Sumit Sadana, EVP and Chief Business Officer at Micron Technology, “Micron has made the difficult decision to exit the Crucial consumer business in order to improve supply and support for our larger, strategic customers in faster-growing segments.”
Crucial was founded back in September 1996.
