OpenAI’s Sora will be shut down.

OpenAI is officially shutting down its Sora platform.
In a statement posted on X, the company thanked users and said more details will follow including timelines and options for preserving content.
OpenAI confirmed the shutdown affects both the consumer app and its web tools for video generation.

The company said it is discontinuing Sora to focus on other areas like robotics and more advanced AI systems. This is so that can perform tasks with minimal human input.
Alongside the closure, OpenAI is also ending its content partnership with The Walt Disney Company. Disney said it respects the decision and will explore other AI partnerships.
Despite strong early interest, Sora struggled with monetization and raised concerns around misinformation and copyright.
OpenAI’s image generation tools in ChatGPT remain unaffected by the move.
