Microsoft granted license to export software to Huawei

Microsoft was recently granted a license by the U.S. government to export software to Huawei.

In a report by Reuters, the U.S. Department of Commerce has granted Microsoft’s request for a license to export “mass-market” software to Huawei. Microsoft didn’t comment on what products were approved, but an analyst said that it is likely for the company’s Windows operating system. The U.S. Department of Commerce also confirmed that it had begun issuing licenses for some companies to sell its products to Huawei.

The U.S. government imposed a trade ban on Huawei six months ago over national security concerns. The blacklisting also prevented Google from doing business with Huawei. As a result, the Chinese tech giant cannot use Google Mobile Services in its new mobile devices, including the Huawei Mate 30 series.
