Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G 5G now official

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. has officially announced the latest addition to its 7-series, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G 5G Mobile Platform.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G 5G is equipped with the new Qualcomm Spectra 570 triple ISP and 6th generation Qualcomm AI Engine. As per Qualcomm, this platform enables a selection of premium-tier features for the first time in the 7-series, making next-generation experiences more widely accessible.

“Since introducing the Snapdragon 7-series three years ago, more than 350 devices have launched based on 7-series mobile platforms. Today, we are continuing this momentum by introducing the Snapdragon 780G 5G Mobile Platform,” said Kedar Kondap, vice president, product management, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.

Featuring the new Qualcomm Spectra 570 Image Signal Processor, the latest chipset is the first 7-series platform with triple 14-bit ISPs, capable of capturing from three cameras concurrently. According to Qualcomm, this feature gives three different images captured by zoom, wide, and ultra-wide lenses at the same time. It supports up to 192MP photo capture, up to 64+20MP dual camera, up to 84MP single camera, 4K HDR,  HDR10+, and more.

It comes geared with a Qualcomm Kryo 670 CPU that offers up to 40% performance uplift and has up to FHD+ 144Hz display support. Furthermore, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G 5G is also powered with the 6th generation Qualcomm AI Engine with the Qualcomm Hexagon 770 processor, delivering up to 12 TOPs AI performance, a 2x improvement compared to its predecessor. The platform is further enhanced by the 2nd generation Qualcomm Sensing Hub, which integrates a dedicated low-power AI processor for audio processing.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G 5G also comes fully optimized with select Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming features. Qualcomm mentioned that the platform got dozens of mobile-first features, delivering desktop-level capabilities, including updateable GPU drivers, ultra-smooth gaming, and True 10-bit HDR gaming.

The chip takes the premium Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth audio features offered on Snapdragon 888 to the 7-series for the first time, including recently debuted Qualcomm Snapdragon Sound technology.

It also features an optimized Snapdragon X53 5G Modem-RF System with peak download speeds of 3.3 Gbps on sub-6 GHz frequencies. Besides, with the Qualcomm FastConnect 6900 Connectivity System, Snapdragon 780G also supports Wi-Fi 6 (up to 3.6 Gbps), Bluetooth 5.2, dual antennas, and Qualcomm Snapdragon Sound Technology. Further, with Wi-Fi 6E support, Snapdragon 780G can extend this advanced feature set to the 6 GHz spectrum.

Commercial devices powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 780G are expected to be available in the second quarter of 2021.
